Imagine the situation: you have been invited to celebrate the birthday of your best friend. But the celebration is scheduled for one day with very important, big-money-tournament ticket for that you won a week ago. What you'll do?

You have to know how to evaluate what is most important to you, poker or other things.

If the friend is just an acquaintance who does not have great emotional bond with you, go to poker.

If you are a good friend you'd better consider it. Try to talk to him, if he knows you should know the importance that poker has in your life.

Anyway, just choose and do not look back.

Go to the party, I play cash games and can make my money whenever I want. The life of a tournament player is one where they are slaves and have to betray best friends for cash... disgusting.

Just go talk to the friend and explain your situation, most people are understanding. Then if it is important for you to be at the party then you go to the party

Too hard to say what to do in this situation. For example, if you can get your buy-in back , so you can go for a birthday. But if this is a few days ongoing tournament and you still in and have a good chance for a huge money, better to play the game, and after that congratulate your friend with good present, especially if poker is your job, i,m sure, he will understand.

The situation is not easy, but I choose poker because there may not be such tournaments anymore and the chance to win is very high, but a friend will understand and then celebrate the event

I try not to change family events for poker. The best way is to look forward and try not to qualify for things you cant play in. All that being said I missed a bunch of games that I was entered into yesterday, because I didnt follow my own advice.

The question is not about choices but about who you are. I know that you have a best friends birthday but If the person really is the BEST he/She would understand If you Take a big tournament. Be carefull when playing to focus on the game If you want to Win. If you lose you can always Go to the party as a plan B.
