Is holdem addictive? Is there a guideline to see if you are TOO INVOLVED?
Is there a gauge to see if you have CROSSED THE LIMIT of playing for entertainment & unable to curtail your playing? Everybody is different. How much time they have, are they neglecting other responcibilities? Can it truly become OBSESIVE? Should you set personal limits on how long you play at a time or how many days consecutively you play?
Just curious to see what others think about WHEN IS IT TOO MUCH. give me a shout & let me know what limits you set.:) :(    :D

Personally, I know I play too much and have begun to limit myself to 1-2 tourneys a day or 5-8hrs if playing ring games.
But if you have to pose a Question like you have, then I'd say you probably know your playing or think your playing too much.

Personally, I think the parameters are different for each individual. Fortunately I have a wife and when I get a frying pan upside my head then i know I've crossed the line.

I find this quesiton hilarious, because well, my friends obviously think its completely abnormal that I play so much poker, and that's their opinion about me playing live poker. I don't play live that much, consider my location, but I play a couple hours a day on the weekends when I can, and an occasional tounament.

Um, I don't think there's an actual set amount for everyone, on what is too much poker. As long as you're not going completely overboard and "obssessed" like you said, I don't think any amount is too much. I've known a few poker players, that go through 24 hour sessions without blinking an eye. And of course, they're winning when this occurs. I would probably never play poker 24 hours straight, I don't think I could just because I love doing other things too much, just as much as poker, so I couldn't just sit at a table for that long. Also, you have to take into account whether your winning or losing. If you're regularly playing 2 hour sessions and profiting, and then every now and then playing a 5-6 hour session and losing big, you should see where you're strengths are and where you're weaknesses are.

its hard to say exactly what too much is. if its what you like to do, its what you like to do. as long as you get stuff done and like to play, whose to say you spend too much time on it. if it strains important relationships, thats one thing. if you spend every last free dollar you have on playin thats another. but i think you yourself ultimately know where to draw the line. its just a matter of whether or not you will.

if you like the game of poker and enjoy it, then it's ok, it's too much if you spend 100% of your time only on poker

How much time a player can devote to poker is very individual for each player !!! I think that as long as poker does not cause you financial problems and does not interfere with communication with family and friends, then this cannot be called an addiction !!!

I ran a weekly game at my local Pub and it was a lot of work keeping the records of Wins for players and submitting the League table every week I even posted the results on Facebook for the players to see where they stood in the League.
The problem for me was when Covid struck and even though I had retired as the TD and handed the running of the League to another player I had no where to play, So I turned to On-line Poker so that I could keep my addiction fed, I did play occasionally on-line and had amassed a $200 BR on-line, all from freerolls, but generally I only played for fun money on Facebook.
You need to understand I started playing On-line and when I felt confident enough I started playing Live games, which were great and I had some great results winning the league many times and qualifying for a quarterly Casino game, from there I started visiting more and more casinos and did well.
But Covid killed it all and my only opportunity to play was back to Facebook, which was OK but I really wasn't getting anywhere playing for fun, So I decided that if I was as good as I thought I was, then what was stopping me from playing for real money on-line and making a profit, I already had £200 on pokerstars so where was the problem?
So I played $1 buy-ins to test the waters and before I knew it I was up to $300. It got to a point where I was playing from 10.00 am in the morning until late at night on a daily basis, I did well and now have over £600 but one day I stopped, and just cannot for life of me get back into it. I don't know where the problem is or where it came from but I still feel that I am burnt out, I do visit this forum every day hoping to find that spark to play again but to date I still have not found the desire to play.
Maybe one day I will feel the urge to "Shuffle up and Deal" again!
