I maybe missed a post about this. Forgive me if this has been brought up already.

But, I was curious what stakes everyone plays at. Limit, NL and Pot Limit.

I usually only dabble with No limit once and a while and don't play much at Pot Limit.

I mainly stick very low under the radar. 1/2, 2/4, 5/10 and 25/50 cent tables.

And not much at the 25/50 cent level.

Of course I play freerolls a lot. Still have yet to play even $1 buy in MTTs.

Someday. I will make the move up. Mostly this is a hobby. And not a way to make money. Just a little spare change to keep me happy.

So how about the rest of you all? What stakes do you play at.

Are you the penny player? Micro-Limits.

Low limit player? 1/2 to 5/10?

Or hight stakes than that?

Or maybe you just do the Play Money thing and Freerolls.

What ever the case.

Leave a post here and let us know.

NO RUSH! Trust me have patience! no point in rushing up the wager ladder, wait till you consistentally beat the micros then THINK about moving up! My bankroll is fattened daily by players who's heads get too big and play stakes they have no buisness being at! Remember don't sit down if you are scared to lose what you sit down with!

I'm pretty sure most peoples achillies heel would be moving up in limits too fast and inability to mange their bankroll. I am about to dabble in the online game again (I quit 2.5 or so years ago), and even though my online bankroll is healthy from sportsbetting, I am going to start at the $1/$2 limit games or the $25 NL level. I want to make sure I can still swim before I dive back in.

That is what I have been told, its kind of a cherry-pick at the lower levels if you're willing to grind a little more time-wise.

I just have gotten so used to cash games that I am spoiled. I have been playing with some real peaches. Three different guys under 30, all own at least one restaurant chain (one owns one Subway, one owns 3 Subways, and one owns a Moe's Southwest Grill), all like to drink too much, and its all mommy and daddy's money. That's just three of the guys. The game is so freakin' soft after the first couple 12 packs my sister could sit at it. Some of the other guys are real players, but we kinda split the dead money up if that makes sense. There isn't any collusion per se, but I may play around some of the other card-guys and through the donkeys. Don't get me twisted, if they make a play at my pot and I'm commited, ill take them down, just like they would me, but we aren't gunning for one another.
If any of you guys live in Central Florida and want to play a live game with some real cash on the felt, let me know through here and you can be my cousin from Indianna. Its sickening how these guys have no respect for money, actually more nice than sickening, but you get the picture.

A lot of good points everyone.

I guess for the question if I can make it in the top 80 often the answer is yes.

But, then again. What size a field are you talking about. if you are talking 4000 that is a big difference than getting 80 in a field of 500.

I am pretty good about getting in the top 5% to 10%. in field of like 500-750. Even had have a few final table finishes. And one 2nd in a field of 800. although I think that was a fluke.

300 and smaller I can get to the final table about 1 in 10 tourneys. And in the money regularly.

Once the numbers get larger than 1000 I kind of fade off before hitting the money even if it the top 10% is paid. But, most of those are the in the range of 2500 and up.

Not to many in the 1000 range.

I have been playing regularly for about 2 years. And I am beginning to wonder whether I am not wasting my time with 1/2 2/4 and 5/10 cent limits. Seems like I am banging my head against the wall for the most part.

Oddly, I seem to do better with more solid players. I suppose it is because you can use more of your skills on them than calling stations or maniacs.

The actually will fold a j8 off. And making a big raise with a strong hand can push out the draws and 2 pairs because it is to expensive oddswise.

The higher limit games are going to tighten the play in my experience. As you move up, you have more to lose and so does the other guy, so he's going to fold some of the marginal, card-chaser hands you're up against at the micro-limit tables.

You must also take into account that a suggested bankroll size for a limit is equal to anywhere between 100 and 300 big bets. So I usually meet in the middle for arguments sake and go with no less than 200 big bets for my bankroll size. If I am playing at $1/$2, I will have $400.00 to play with. Also remember that when you move up in limits, your swings are going to be more dramatic and you will be down more at one time than you are used to. You have to be mentally prepared for a cold run of cards and a deep dip before you move up, just in case.

PhilIvory, if you don't mind me asking, where did you move up to and how much bank did you take up to that limit, and how long did you stick with it? I ask, because you must take into account variance and the fact that you have to get used to the larger swings in your bankroll that you take at a higher limit. Just curious. If you aren't comfortable posting it, that's cool.

I don't play to make money either, most of the time I'll play the play money and freerolls, but once in a while I'll jump into the $1/$2 Limit, and the lowest pot limit I can find.

If you are trying to make a living at poker online then you have to play the 5/10 limit tables or higher

i personally play the 2/4 to 3/6 range when i play, have backed off for awhile though and mainly play in tourneys.

Not really true, all depends on what sites you play, and what you need to make a living. If $300/$400 per week is a living for you i know the places to play.

All you need is your fishing rod :) .

Generally play the .25/.50 or .50/1 ring games and the 5+ SNGs. Anything less is way to loose for me. I wish I had the bankroll to move up as the quality of play is so much better. A year ago I survived on the 3/6 tables at party poker for a month before going bust. Folks play much better at the higher limits and there are virtually no chasers or fishermen...

HI - I don't play ring games - I've tried them and don't care for them since the limits are really low - and I won't play higher limits. Winning 58 cents isn't my thing and frankly I don't think I'm good at ring games. Do what yur good at.

I enjoy SNG's. I started at the $5 level and have placed each time.

I agree Dave - folks do play tighter at higher limits and they should, there's more to lose. I know I do.

You always have to think about what you are willing to risk and what your goals are. Last year in Las Vegas, I played a $1/$3 limit game to sharpen my skills in playing at real tables. Won every night and even grinded out a + $450 one long night.

I recently started playing real money games online (NL - cheap tables) and have done okay on Ultimate Bet and royal vegas. The problem is, people stay in forever at UB hoping for the river to win it for them - which it seems to do much more ofter than chance would dictate. I guess that the higher limit tables would get me better quality opponents - but I just don't know that I trust this online stuff enough yet.

I have just moved from $25 to $100 NL and find that the quality of play is much higher generally but that this gives me an opportunity to apply more subtle strategies.

I enjoy the game much more and have to concentrate much harder and fold a lot more hands than I'm used to but the Poker is much better.

I think the lower the leve, the less like Poker and more like Bingo it becomes and this can really damage your confidence.

diabloblanco, you may be intersted in this article.

i like buy-in games no larger than $5+rake, if theyre league games. I will talk myself into the 16k tourny at Absolute every once in a while. Live games though,, that's a whole different animal. My biggest entry was $500, and i took 2nd. $20 is the usual buy-in for home games i find, and people get REALLY wary if you try to talk them up to $100. So now i just play a few @ $20, and hope someone else wins enough to want to play head to head after.

From what i've heard, moving to the really high limit tables actually bring much more loose (yes, LOOSE) opponents than the 1/2$ tables. If you think about it, the people who play the $25/50$, etc limits obviously dont really care about their money and they have way too much of it. I hear you can make a lot more there from loose, rich idiots than at the lower limits where the people actually care about losing some of their money. If I had the bankroll and wasnt scared to death to play such a high limit table, I might try it for a while...though I guess the fear of compulsive gambling setting in would never allow me to play there.

Generally I'm at a .10/.20 blind NL ring game (6 person table) and I've done quite well. The thing about it is you need to buy in at the maximum level and wait for people who come in with the minimum. They wait for one hand and go all in every time. It's an easy way to pick up $1/$2 at a time with very little risk to your stack.

In cash games I stick to limit hold'em (.25/.50 or .50/1).

I play in Multi-Table Tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $1-$5.50

I also play the $5.50 and $6.50 sit-n-gos at pokerstars.

Hello ..havent been here in a while and had to change my name due to pasword retreival problems . Thanks for the ?

I had moved up to the .50/1.00 and even 1/2 and 2 /4 . The swings were definately on the downside. I had a 1000$ in my account and brought the avg chip amount to the tables but found alot of bluffing goin on at the higher limits i would play solid starting hands and would be forced to put all my chips at risk and lose to a 3 outer a few times which killed my bankroll .I think people who play the higher limits can afford to take those crazy risks and i prefer to play against tighter competition.
