I have read in several sources that a 40% return on investment is an excellent result. Anyway, what results have you been looking for in online poker and what are its mechanisms for measuring your outcome?

Generally it is very easy - if you get more than you have deposited you are ok. Of course there are some details involved here. Do you use the poker as hobby or as a job? If you play for fun as hobby being on plus or at least not too much at minus to influence your normal life is ok. It is like every other hobby - you invest some money that you can afford to spend and get some pleasure in return.

If you try to play as pro and your income from poker supports your life you should not only be just winning but win enough per month to continue. How much is that depends very much on your place of living and your lifestyle.

I'd be happy being profitable even if it's a penny. Poker is a tough game and there's a lot of great competition out there.

Good afternoon friends. Actually all of us who play want to earn money, some of us play recreational and others depend on the profits to live. the margin varies, the ideal is to triple your investment per day. already if there are more gains welcome, it is my opinion, greetings ...

I think thats a very deep question and one that clearly depends on many factors. Rec player or pro player to start with - which has already been addressed in earlier posts.

For me a cash game win rate of 5 -7 BB / hr is a good win rate achieveable by a good player so if you are playing $2/$5 and winning 7BBs an hour than you are effectively making $35/hr which (depending where you live) is a decent livable wage.

Some of the best players in the world find it difficult to average more than about 7 - 10 BB / hr - this of course is over a very large sample of played hands but still, the principal is there.

If you are trying to play for a living i would say you need to look to earn between $25 - $30 / hr minimum to sustain yourself and basic living conditions.

If you are playing for fun or a hobby i think its better to set a goal and see if you can reach it :) it gives you something to strive towards and play your best game to achieve.

Thank you my friend. Your opinion is very important, and I will take a closer look at these arguments.

I agree with you, poker is an excellent game of leisure, but at the same time it involves you in a very intense competition and tests you both physically and psychologically, as well as intellectually.

Yes, I've thought of this, poker involves people, who like us, have good reasoning skills, so to stand out, it takes a lot of study above average and demonstrates aptitude to recognize the various styles of existing players.

Thanks for your input, but I disagree that you should triple your money every day. Of course poker is a high risk investment, and so the variations can be really big, but triple the capital every day I think a little exaggerated.

Something similar happened to me. And I'm willing not to deposit more, I intend to raise a bankroll just playing freerolls in the various poker rooms on the world market and eventually participate in promotions.

Thank you very much, this response was quite complete and will help me a lot. I will try to build on that to manage my gains and losses from now on. Having control is key.

As said by other members already, we must take into account several other factors besides comparing recreational vs playing for a living. if we are beginners we should not consider loosing money as a loss in revenue. I believe that there is no better school than been exposed and get to know how much we are strong or weak. therefore its questionable in my opinion, to look only at numbers and estimate earnings. most great players tried and had losses before starting to see a profit.

I play when I play, I try to win as much money as possible if this is a cash game to get a good result, if you get more than you deposited it very well and you are in profit and then you can play and get more, but you need to play carefully and not lose the bankroll!
