Online, theres not many fish. However, live poker has a lot of gamblers who just don't know how to play poker. But of course, theres still a lot of money to be made online.

Im going to make a rough guess and say that at least 50% of the players playing the micros(anything below 25NL) are fish and recreational players. If you play on the weekends you will find a WHOLE LOT MORE.

How many this kind of players do you think there are?

IMO at NL2 i think about 70%fish , 20%donks 8%bad regs and 2% good solid regs.
At NL5 60%fish , 15% donks , 20% bad regs and 5% good regs.
At NL10 50% fish , 10% donks , 30% bad regs and 10% good regs.
Thats from what i experienced in ZOOM but i think same applies to regular games.

the majority of players are losing players, so if theyพำ สนหรืเ ยสฟัำพ are losing players i think they are playing for fun. no one plays to lose. so by this logic the answer is yes the majority of players play for fun

I disagree I think a large percentage of poker players take it seriously and at some stage believe they are going to win tournaments or become pro

I also think its a dangerous sport for some people who just cant accept they are not winning players and although they may have some talent they are still miles away from ever earning a living from the game.

I have 20$ to spend every month on the tables. I try to win (for sure) but if I lose I don t care about it. I like to withdraw big winnings ( around 100$) but this happens only twice a year. I have a good time and I like to play for real money. I read some pokerbooks and saw videos, but I never took my poker so serious to make it a profession.

Interesting point of views going on here.

I'd classify myself as one of those who play online to play for fun. I don't spend a lot of time playing OLP and maybe once every 2-3 weeks go play in a live tournament locally, but I wouldn't consider myself a fish. Should we be giving more credit to those who recreationally play, such as myself?

I treat every tournament I play in the same. If I buy in for $3 or $10, my intentions are to hopefully cash, and if I make it that far, hopefully win.

it is like you just described me, beside the deposit part, i wasted every single free money i get, i have good days and bad days, days when i think that i get really better and days when i think of myself as just another fish, but in general im loosing slow... i'm almost sure that ill never get any significant money from poker and have some big holes in my game but i am trying, reading, lurking forum, watching vids...

A large majority of players are losing money in poker, this leads me to believe that it's not the income that draws most people to the game.

the short term wins are what draws people to stick to the table, or imagination of a future big wins in my case :D
