My input.

Poker started out just a friendly game with family too. Then it progressed to an everyday occasion. Now I can't live without poker.

I learned on pokerstars. My late hubby taught me, and I played for playchips for a year. Then one day he trasferred a dollar, for my first cash game I was so nervous, because he was watching and I wanted to make him proud. I won, but I picked up alot of bad habits that I am still having to unlearn playing playchips. I went on to play live at Binions and Golden Nugget, Queens all the great places on Freemont Then we moved to Vegas.

For me, poker is just a hobby. Winning is great. But most importantly, poker makes my brain work. Great workout for the mind.

A great joy, a great game and a hobby, that's what poker means to me and I love it. CardsChat forum is just a cherry on the top of this lovely cake.

Played since a little boy & my love for poker will never cease.
It was quite different back then and has only become serious due to finding Hold em online.
All in all, when I look at it as a hobby, makes much more sense and takes the pressure off, which makes it easier to be more relaxed.

I've been playing for about four years. Found poker for yourself accidentally killing time on the Internet. Now a lot of time I spend playing. There are days when I am at the poker tables for 14-16 hours a day. I think that this will continue as long as I enjoy the game. Maybe poker in the future will be my main source of income. But for now it's just a pleasant pastime.

For anyone that dreams of poker being their main source of income, Id suggest the following.

1. be great at bankroll management..set limits on how much you will lose at a particular session and how much you will be happy to win and get up from the table. Most players do not know when to quit , when they are losing, or winning.

2. Always anaylize your own game, and be honest when you play poorly.

3. try to find a player at the table whom you respect the most, and be more like that player. Nobody likes to be around irritating bad losers at the table.

4. live within your means from as financial point of view. Just because you may have a good poker year and win $30,000 , doesnt mean you should go out and buy a new corvette with that money.

5. Understand the importance of GOOD LUCK vs BAD LUCK...these 2 things are the great equalizers in games of chance and skill. Bad luck will cause a good player, to lose money and good luck will cause a weak player to win money. Ive seen this over the last 30 years in live games. Nver underestimate the importance of luck.

6. Understand that to beat the game of poker, it relies on 2 main factors :

HOW MUCH YOU WIN AND HOW LITTLE YOU LOSE.

7. Learn to play a style that best rewards you . For example, Playing like Doyle Brunson or Gus Hansen, may not be a style that rewards you...Find a style of play that works the best for you in the longterm. For me, that style is very tight , but aggressive if I play a hand. Its always best to have the other poker player , fear you, when you play a hand. I play about 2-3 hands per hour, to the river....so when im in the hand, they know I got a solid hand . This also gives me some leeway..to buy hands...for example..if their is 3 diamonds on the river in hold em..and im holding the bare ace of diamonds, I can buy a pot with a strong river bet.

The tighter you play, the more respect you will get when you play a hand or bet big on a hand.

"I can not live without poker " is a way of saying . And when I say that poker is everything to me , I mean I spend most of the time playing poker.

I am tryin to make poker more of a life for me and do it like a job. Though it is rough somedays but I enjoy the constant learning aspect of it. I normally play like 20 freerolls a day and when I am done will go through my hand history and see the flaws and mistakes I have made and try to correct them and get feedback from the people I entrust for advice

in truth I started playing poker so much curiosity to see tv programs,
as I was playing I was gaining more and more the desire to learn,
to the point that now I play every day and hope to make much progress in the world of poker

My journey started with other casino games. I was a huge fan of blackjack. I memorised basic strategy and I tried to learn to count cards. I learnt the deviations and I practiced keeping a running count and a true count. But unfortunately, the lowest table at my casino that doesn't use a CSM (Continuous Shuffling Machine) is the $50 blackjack table, which would require at least a $20k bankroll in order to be able to counter variance (due to the constant $1k bets you need to make when the count is high).

Once I realised that card counting was unrealistic for me (due to the bankroll requirements), I turned my attention to poker. I started playing at the casino and I was a fish. Then I read some strategy articles on the internet and played on Zynga. I eventually started playing online, joined cardschat, watched youtube videos and asked for advice. Now I can beat 10NL on PokerStars and I believe I have an edge over most 400NL live players at my casino.

I'm 22 years old and I've been playing poker for 1 year 3 months. I love the game and I take it very seriously. I want to be able to beat 100NL on PokerStars before I turn 24.
