What limits should I be playing at $50? Is 25NL too steep? I usually do well in it but I was wondering if I should actually be playing 10NL with my bankroll.

Start at 10nl untill you get atleast $200 in your acct then you could most likely safely move upto 25nl

You should probably be playing 2NL, maybe 5NL. There is no way you should be playing 25NL and you stand a good chance of going broke at 10NL too.

Playing with 5 full buy ins is a terrible idea, no matter how good you are you could lose 5 buy ins pretty quickly if you hit a bad streak. When I started grinding 10NL in March I lost 5 buy ins at the beginning of the month but I still ended up winning $205. If I started the month with $50 like you are you would have just been broke after the first downswing.

It's your call though, just don't be surprised or angry when you have nothing left.

Wow... I have more than your bankroll and I am playing in the micro limits not even thinking of going up to $.25/$.50 before I hit $300

Maybe it is just me, but my variance is too big. I played some hours yesterday and my bankroll swinged between $80 and $140 ... that is enough excitement for me at $.10/$.25 tables :)

Even if you're the best player in the world there is a HUGE chance of you going broke with only 5 buyins. You're rolled to play NL2, no higher.

Also, if you're a winner at NL100, then why not just deposit and play that level instead of grinding NL2?

I started as you are with a initial 50$ deposit. My plan was to take it to the cash tables (0.5/0.10), double up a couple times then bobs your uncle ill move up to higher limits and start 'really' playing poker (this ofcourse after id decided i was a god of poker after watching a bit on tv...). Everything started quite well, and i made about a 30% profit before i hit a downswing and hit the bad beat after bad beat. My BR was down to 10$ over two nights.

From there i reevaluated my situation. Realising i was in no state for cash games i took a break, did some research and 'wisened up'. On my return I decided to play only the smallest stake SnG's to build up my BR, which subsequently went back up to 60$. I continued playing SnG's till i had a much healthier BR to enter cash games, and even now i think i preform better in SnG's, and thus rarely play rings unless i hit a big win.

So in my opinion hit the low-stake SnG's until youve got your BR up to 100-150$. If after that you think you can dominate teh cash tables give it a go, at least youll have you SnG game to fall back on.

A decent rule of thumb for cash games is 20-30 Max Buy-ins.

I see what ajrobin is saying about moving to SNGs, with a $50 BR it might be the best ideas, as for me grinding at 0.01/0.02 and 0.02/0.05 isn't fun at all!
