I think it goes something like this, in a double or triple shootout you have to beat 2 or 3 individual tables before table balancing begins.
Make any sense?

They are basically strung together sit-n-goes. You will be at a table with 6 players or 10 players. Whoever wins(1st place) gets moved to a table with all of the other table winners. Double shootouts usually have 100 players so there are two rounds. Triple shootouts are usually 6 player tables and have 3 rounds (216 entrants). They are pretty fun to play, lot of dead time between rounds though since everyone has to finish before the next round starts.

Actually they are real easy ways to win your way into the bigger ticket events. The best ones are the short table turbos.

so it goes to last man on each table before new players are added?

On some sites (eg party poker) 3 players advance from each table rather than just 1. And each of those 3 players takes their chip stack to the next round.

NB, you can wait up to an hour sometimes between rounds.

oh, and an after thought. With the party poker structure you get paid some money each round.
