Hey CCers!

I am a writer and I'm thinking about writing about the game we all love. I might write a couple short books on different angles about poker and I thought it would be fun to get your opinions on what you'd like to see in a poker book.
I appreciate any thoughts. :D

I think you should show something fresh about proach for playing. Not only tactic or something like that "tables, ranges, how you should play, why that". Players must read this book with interest. Maybe some kind of your really stories during chapters? For example, you can write some tips and you can tell how it works in your practice :)

I think poker books get outdated very quickly because the game moves along at a fast pace and subtle changes take place all the time...so what could have been a good book at the time you bought it might be out of date with concepts 3 months later..

abit like getting a new iphone...you know it will be worthless 4 weeks later when they bring out the latest one lol...never ends

for me, I just read books like 'the theory of poker' and 'poker math that matters' and get a good fundamental education from books like that. then its up to us to play lots of games and self improve by making mistakes and learning from them...training sites would be a better approach for learning too than books..because the videos on training sites are always uploaded and fresh with whats happening today..forums are good also for reviewing hands and lots of other things..

just need to keep your finger on the pulse when it comes to poker I think.

Thanks guys! Maybe I'll keep it more of an entertainment/story driven book so that it is fresh and stays relevant longer.

Hahahaha, that was so funny. Most people I've played were russians and they are very agressive.
Back to the topic, depends of the person's poker level or in what they are looking for, what they want or need to learn to improve their game.

I disagree to an extent. Alot of the good poker books are written in a way in which to help the reader to develop their thinking process(es) as opposed to some of the older school ones that give you more of a breakdown on suggested play.

As far as a new poker book that would draw interest.... idk. For tournament play I think it'd need to be along the lines of some of the more popular ones out there today, where you have pro(s) commenting on handhistories, illustrating certain concepts. (ie. Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand At A Time, Moorman's new book.). I think if you could get a group of players to comment on HandHistories it'd probably be best.

I'd like to know some strategy on the mathematical aspects of the game. I saw some of phil galfond's online videos but could not understand the complex math topics that he was discussing on when it would be profitable to make certain plays. i'd also like to know how to improve. i'm at the level where I understand basic and intermediate concepts, but when it comes to becoming pro and getting the right software, I need some help

I would keep it as short and to the point as possible. Try to impart real wisdom not vague references and back it up with numbers and results. Approach the game with a freshness that has been lacking in most books I have read. Perhaps if you have any weaker skills in areas that need to be covered don't be afraid to have a guest write that can help a book be more interesting. Hope this helps!

Really good insights, you guys, I appreciate you thoughts. I guess I could/should have asked if you've read/how many poker books you've read in the last 1-2 years. I do feel like reading poker books has lost a lot of its popularity to watching videos but I think that there are still enough people who would read to make it a worthwhile effort to write/publish. Especially if I use your thoughts like keeping it to a really focused subject and seeing if I could get pro(s) to contribute in some way. Maybe I should come up with a poll.
