I would say that poker players are something between sportsmen and gamblers. You need to practice and play a lot to become a good poker player and there are tournaments that are on high national level so in that view it is something like sport, but also poker players are gamblers, so in conclusion it is a gambling sport.

I think poker players are sportsmen! This particularly applies to playing in tournaments. In poker of course there is an element of excitement.

As much as I love poker, there is no way it can be classified as a sport. Its a game.

Id say if you are a pro, you could say its a sport. But the Average Joe that plays on occasion is obviously a gambler.

I would say most most poker players are hopeless scumbags, and good for nothing low life degenerate gamblers....ummm wait a minute I'm a poker player so let me rephrase that...most poker players are visionaries, dreamers and hopeless romantics:)...possibly sportsman

Poker players are both gamblers and sportsmen, the gamblers are most likely playing cash games, looking for that QUICK buck, while the sportsmen are tournament players willing to wait for that buck.

Seriously guys?

In what universe is poker even related to a sport? Just because the play it for a living? Crazy notion.

Poker to me falls into the same category as professional darts. Its a game, not a sport. Not even close.

There is absolutely no way poker can be classified as a sport. What exertion are you exerting by sitting in a chair for 10-12 hours a day? Is binge-watching Netflix on your couch for `5 hours a sport because you are doing something sedentary for an extended period of time?

Since I don't consider poker a sport, players and athletes are unable to call.

It depends on the individual and it's important to identify which one your opponent is.

I would call those who strictly play slots, black jack, roulette and games to those effect are most likely considered gamblers however those who play Hold'em, Omaha, stud, etc... are more sportsman because there's mental and, for long sessions, physical parts of the game

poker players to me are sportsmen not gamblers like ones who play slots, bet on horse, football and everything else because with those you are mostly relying on someone else to win you your money but with poker it's in your hands to put your money in the middle after taking into account what you have learned at the table. The best at poker don't rely on luck to win ....they caan win with nothing when they know the time is right.

Poker is a game of skil and not luck. While there is obviously luck involved in the short term, the best players will win money froom the weaker players in the long term. Hence poker could be considered more like a sport than gambling

Sorry but i don't regard the ordinary joe as a gambler, they might not be the best but they don't win by sheer luck there is at least some skill in the way they play ie;hand selection and read of table and players at said table.Obviously there is more luck on the side of the average player because they are not as capable of reading others as the pro would be but gambler no.
