Everyone is a little superstitious. It could be something small like having a hand you like just because it has won for you in the past. A lucky card guard. A favorite place at a table. A person you sit next to while you play. A song you have to listen to before you play or while you play.

It even goes the other way. You may have a powerful hand that you will not play because you think its bad luck. I have heard of people refusing to play 66 because they think it is unlucky. I have heard people say they refuse to play poker on the 13th because they think they will lose because of the day.

I think superstitions go hand and hand with most poker players it could be something small you never realized.

I remember a night where I played 5/2 almost every time I got it because I won with it 8 out 10 times that night. I am not saying that this is my favorite hand and I would have normally never even kept the hand. I remember the only reason I kept this hand was I was on the Big Blind and no one raised. The Flop came and there was a 5 5 2. So here I am sitting with a full house. So of course I wasn't about to fold. I remember the next time I got this hand I held it just because it was lucky for me before. The flop was 2 2 2. I am telling you this hand was on fire that night. Of course now when I get that hand I sometimes wonder but I know the odds for this hand are low I only played it that night because it was winning.

I would love to hear some of your stories about superstitions or being superstitious. What do you think helps improve your game?

My superstition happens to be a healthy one. I always take stairs in a casino if possible. I sit enough during long sessions so a few extra steps coming and going works for me. I didn't realize it had turned from a good habit into a superstition until my last trip to casino. I parked on the 7th floor of the parking deck and felt obligated to walk the seven flights while entering the casino. I may be getting to old for my superstition.

my superstition is - Never go all in pre-flop with any pair below KK. I prefer go all in with AJ, KJ or KQ than QQ for example. It´s kind of strange but i never win a race with a high pair. Only win with AA and KK, never with QQ,JJ (...) . If it is a crucial pot of the tournament i just fold those hands.

Haha

I wont ever fold pairs 77+ when I need a double up but I def feel you.

My ratio for races and flips is probably 30-35% unfortunately.

My AK loses 6/10 times to 55 and my 55 loses 7/10 times to AK.

Hopefully the run good happens when I need it most!

I am not superstitious in the least, so not everyone is superstitious. Being superstitious is very egocentric and, honestly, makes no sense to me at all. If I know ANYTHING about this world, it's that it doesn't revolve around me --- so I know that what I do while watching my favorite basketball team play, for instance, has NO BEARING on the outcome of the game.

I fail to see how anyone could think/believe differently.

I don't think having a favorite hand is superstitious. That is unless you play it every single time you get dealt that hand and for not matter how many chips (all in). My favorite hand is K9s but of course I lay this down preflop late in tourneys and in cash games when not getting good odds to see a flop.

But i know the feeling of "I feel like should call here...". Sometimes it seems like time freezes and for a split second you think this may be that moment in time that you are suppose to win big. This happens to me a lot when playing slots at casinos, so i sometimes up the bet for seemingly no reason lol

Last time I played a cash game, this guy kept asking for a deck change. Had to wait a minimum of 10 hands to ask again, and he did. Then he asked for a new setup 10 hands later

If you play live enough you learn who's a lil bit corrupt.. Perhaps he didn't trust a particular person, and that's the best way to protect himself.

Also Superstition is a great way to cover up good poker moves... Moving to someones left because you have to face towards the door when you play brings you luck... some ppl may believe it :)

The one thing I am sort of superstitious about is that when I win with a certain hand and then get than same exact hand again I feel a little hesitant. Like this time I wont win.

For example, I raise AQ and win with a pair aces and then I get AQ the next hand.

Actually my favorite hand is Q/8 I do not know why I just like it and I have won with it more then I have not. If I get a Q/8 I will usually at least want to see the flop with it.

However I will throw it away if I know its no good.
