I just want to ask as many of you as I can: Is there a certain frame of mind in which you can more easily play disciplined poker? For me, I actually find that I'm at my most consistent when I've been overstimulated, and then play poker. That way, the boredom of it is actually a relief, and I can pay attention much more effectively, which leads to my most solid play.

A glass of whiskey, quiet room, and my mastiff at my side to keep the wife away.

Being strict on your bankroll management, having your room clean and tidy, having all the chores done/problems of the day solved, being hydrated and satiated, in the evening with a positive mood.

There are many factors involved in a 'good' poker mindset. You've got to have patience and not be prone to tilt. You've got treat each cash game, each SNG and each tournament separately- only focussing on that one game. You've got to be physically prepared- being full of energy and staying hydrated to be able to play your best. However, the most important factor involved in a 'good' poker mindset is bankroll management. Mentally, you've got to know that you're not playing with money you can't afford to lose. That way you can play to your best potential and not be worried about the fact that losing your buy-in will have a significant impact on your bankroll. Hope this helps.

I think the best mindset is the challenge of getting inside the heads of the other players that I am currently playing. When I can focus on understanding how my opponents are playing (and why), then I feel I am in the best mindset to win. I have a lot of physical distractions when I am playing: a puppy, two cats with a 5 year old daughter that is all Daddy's girl, then there's the tv or stereo that is always on, the constant emails, text messages, instant messages... just to name a few. But honestly, when I focus myself on figuring out my opponents game, those distractions seem to kind of melt away.

I find that I do better when all my chores are done. I have tried to play when they aren't and find that I am constantly thinking of what should have been done and didn't get done. Not a comfortable state of mind for me.

Good luck to all on and off the felt!
