Hi Guys :)

i know this may be a stupid question but to me this is crucial.

Can people please share how do they relax after you have been going good for ages then you lose a massive hand / and or u been going good for ages then some donk just mucks about and ends up beating you with ridiculous cards.

Im not talking about freeroll tournaments... this happens to me in descent cash game prize moneys.

Any experiences would be appreciated and im always learning so any info is good info.

Thanks guys

I think its important to make note of the times you win hands when the odds weren't in your favor. I've found that if I can remember some hands when I was the one that caught a ridiculous river it doesn't sting so bad when I'm on the loosing side. Trust your skills, learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them. Take a few breaths and start over.

I generally rage in table chat, because I'm an A-hole. Lol.

I figure at the very least they'll think I'm tilting after :)

Usually I lose the massive hands that eliminates me from tourneys so I am able to just log out and go hit the punching bag for awhile and let my frustrations out. If I am still in I almost never play the next several hands unless I have a huge hand: AA, KK, QQ, AK, and even then I may throw away AK just because too many people are going to assume you are tilting and are going to call you down with a wider range. There's almost nothing worse than losing a huge pot, except losing a huge pot and then getting a huge pocket pair and losing it too.

The sting of losing a massive pot to someone who shouldn't have even been there is just as bad and if you don't have control and focus then it will really adversely affect your game. If you watched the Nat'l Championship of Poker and the way Daniel Negreneau handled the beat he took (especially with the dude beside him calling the cards)..this is a great example of how to handle the situation. You know he was boiling inside, but he was able to set emotion aside and continue.

First of all, there are not any stupid questions. You want feedback and we want to give that to you. All you can do is go to the next hand. There is no way you can change what just happened to you. But I have the same problem. What gets me every time is when I get a good stack I start playing a little loose, when for the whole time I been playing tight. Then I get caught out there with 2nd best. Anyway the good thing is that you know there is a problem and you can work on that. I have to work on something every day or my game will go down hill. GL to you

Try to control your emotions after you've lost a big hand and cool off for a few moments, try to think where you did wrong and what could've been done to avoid the situation and maybe next time you'll know how to play it better.

This happens to me all the time.

Overall, 80% of it, I have no regrets because I know I did the right thing.

I only get upset to myself if I did foolishness which at first I know its wrong.

The most important thing is ability to read your opponent, maintain discipline and know when to fold.Big hand usually mean big pot and usually hard to recover from the losing.Just maintain discipline and try not to tilt.

i use to cut myself (just funning)

i try to think that is poker! and think in the past hands that won when the statics preflop said that i had to lose.

i always expect the chance of lose with a good hand because i always expec the chance of win with a hand worst than my villain sometimes.

Just shrug it off.
The hand is over, you lost, move on. There are going to plenty of big hands as you play that you may lose. Get used it.

Online- I let out a big yelp(which usually wakes my wife up)! :) I get yelled at and then settle back down. Stew a little and refocus.

Live- I give the opponent who beat me the Horse Eye! I tell them they just made my list! The table usually laughs!

When I lose very big and important hand I get up sad. No smiling, just big and very sad eyes. Some times I cry aloud and set danmation on my enemies, poker gods and so on.

Say "Nice hand, Sir" and move on. I've been playing for 30 years and have been coolered so much it doesn't bother me any more.

Otters get sucked out on and fish suck out. It's inevitable when you're not making -EV plays all the time. If some fish hits a miracle runner, runner draw and beats me with a hand he had no business playing in the first place, I just consider it a loan which that fish (or some other one) will repay with some stiff interest.

Fish wouldn't play if they didn't win one once in a while. Mr. Fish will remember that "big night" when he hit miracle after miracle for the next 20 years like it was last night, and forget every losing session where he lost it all back and more, much, much more. I see reg-fish all the time whose game hasn't improved one iota in five years of playing. I hope these guys never run out of money.

It's probably small consolation, but you're not the only one this ever happens to. It's all part of poker. Even 7-2 will beat AA some of the time. You just have to learn to deal with it and move on. If you can't, then you will find it more difficult to be a successful player. Click on the link for my blog and read the one I just posted about how I handle a bad beat. Maybe you'll get some useful advice out of it.

No matter how hard you try, you will always be upset.

First thing don't tilt
So many players will go all-in on the next hand. Don't be that guy, even if you don't or do have a good hand [except AA, KK then maybe?]
Other players will be look for it, and fold or call if they have a big hand.

Best thing to do is relax fast!
What works for me is telling myself..."Self, I'am still in this game, it's time to think smart and build my stack again.

If it knocked you out of the game? Then freak out all you want....
