I' m almost new playing poker, and I have a question for all player (novice or veteran). In many ocacions I play freerolls to create my bankroll, but is a little difficult because the number of players that are in those tournaments is too high. Sometimes I get cash.

If you make a little deposit in any poker room, is better than play a lot of freeroll for help you to create your bankroll ? Tell me your opinion, remember I m novice.

Yea, it is a much easier start if you deposit versus trying to build from freerolls. If you deposit say $20, you can start playing the lowest limits and grind your way up, but even if you spend your time on 100 freerolls, it's pretty likely that you still wouldn't have built up $20, and you have been putting in a lot of time for no return. With that $20 you could then start grinding the lowest stakes(I would say ring games would be your best bet, 2NL) until you have enough to move up(research BRM on here, there are a lot of good articles, so I'm not going to go into it).

I know many players that play hundreds of freerolls and even after that, they only come out with like $3.21, which still isn't enough for you to do nearly anything with.

Don't get too depressed if you lose your initial bankroll though - see it as learning fee.

I built up my BRs by playing FRs but as said it was an evil grind.

You won't learn much either there (the play is very very bad at times).

If you want to play freerolls I'd go with private FRs (like the CC freerolls) - both the play and the reward are much better.

i might be wrong here but it sounds like ur getting frustrated with playing the large amount of ppl in freerolls and not having too much success in cashing in em. I can understand because u got to get to like less than -1% of that huge field to cash and thats unreal.

I honestly think it would be hard for a beginner to grind 20, 50 or even a few hundred playing micro low stakes if u deposited because too many things could go wrong where ud lose that $ quick. ud lose it either because u don’t have a sound game or ud get tilted 1 time and make bad decisions or ud go up in stakes too fast, I mean the list goes on and on of how u could lose that $.

If ur a beginner like u say u are, id recommend (and I know a lot of ppl would disagree with me here) is to continue with ur freerolls and playchip tables. I type this because if ur starting out, u really shouldn’t be worried about how much u win or lose but question whether u are making the right poker decisions at the table. Id say play the freerolls and playchip tables and use sound poker strategies and see if u can improve ur game. And besides, if ur doing the playchips and freerolls, its all house $ anyway. Lol.

Another reason for playing the playchips tables and freerolls is oddly enough is that ur gonna be playing the same ppl that u would be on the playchip tables at a microlim table. I mean the same ppl, and if theyre not the same ppl, the ppl at the microlims play just as bad or believe it or not even worse than the playchipers who have been playing the playchip tables for fun for yrs. so theres no real reason to deposit. A reason I could see u depositing was if ur an intermediate or advanced player who doesn’t or need learn basic strategies and is ready to go play middle to hi stakes.

Id say relax, have fun and enjoy learning poker. if ur like forget that, I wanna just play poker for cash, id tell u to forget online poker and (if ur old enough) go down or make a trip to ur local casino and play. get a mbrs card and play a few lo buyin 50 or 100$ tourns and get some real poker experience and enjoy urself.

But regardless of what u do when it comes to playing cash online poker for beginners ill be able to look up ur online stats at pokerprolabs or wherever and about 90% of the time the beginner is gonna have a red graph that has a sharp nose dive because of the reasons I mentioned.

so id stick to the playchips and freerolls to avoid having to pay for lessons u coulda learned for free. try not to get frustrated and have fun playing poker.

If MTT's are your style, as that is what you have been playing for the freerolls, then I would suggest depositing at least $50. This way you can sit at the $1 tournament without risking too much of your bankroll. These tournaments play like freerolls (skill level) but are much smaller fields, with much better pay outs. GL in whatever you choose.

When I first started playing poker online, I sold stuff on eBay to build my roll. CD's, DVD's, video games, etc. It worked.

Just my opinion, but I would stick to playing freeroll winnings for the time being. Otherwise you will likely lose every penny you deposit as you gain experience. Plus, if you can't play strong enough to end in the money in a freeroll now and then you'll get eaten up at the money games.

I disagree Larry. I know a lot of people who are fairly successful in MTTs that would have a hard time making any notable cash in a freeroll. Freerolls are only good for learning the absolute basics for how poker works, but not much after that. When you have people playing 85% of the hands, there is no way you can put them on any kind of a helpful range or anything. At least with the lowest buy-ins, some people will take a second to think about what they're playing with because they are putting up some of their own money, even though it may be a small amount.

Play a real money game with basic ABC poker at the micros and you will gain a much better understanding of how to win than you ever will at a public freeroll.

A small deposit always helps but it is doable from freerolls....although thats tough.

Just follow good bankroll management with your winnings and you will be fine.....and read lots and lots

Freerolls are really hard to build a payroll off of. I heard it's faster to build up play money and trading that for cash. I don't know how legal that is and if it is still ongoing today, but I heard that you can build a beginning bankroll much faster by trading play chips.

I built up my current ~$1500 bankroll from nothing starting out by playing freerolls as a challenge to myself. This was not my start with playing poker online though, I have had that and more online in years past, but I wanted to challenge myself with the $0-10k thing. It was very difficult though, much more difficult than it was for me to build up my old bankroll from my first(and only) $20 deposit years ago.

Depends

It can go either way for you in any instance. It can go good or it can go bad. There are different factors that go into this whole thing called poker.Deposits or no deposits, freerolls or no freerolls,it all comes down to how you play and are able to best utilize the cards you are dealt to get the most optimum return possible for your efforts.Do your best and see how you do and always remember the better player you play will increase your game improvement.

That depends on what one dollar tourney you play in. There are several dollar tourneys on stars that draw alot of people and the daily dollar probably has one of the largest tournament tournouts every night.
But like everyone else said freerolls can be a pain to build a bankroll on especially if you dont sit on the $1 to $5 wins and try to build it up first. Some of the better freerolls in my oppinion (outside of the private ones) are the satelite to the ferguson and the satelite to the daily dollar. Granted both only give you a dollar but you also have better chances of cashing in each while neither one takes anywhere near the time all the others do.

I think the daily dollar rebuy and the daily dollar are the best two tournys on the internet. Tight abc poker usually gets u to the money, and some good breaks u can go deep, i took a dollar and won the rebuy a few months ago for 2400, that was a great boooooooost to my bankroll.

What if you play in some tournaments that have a price garantee, in a low number of players. You have a chance, for example in tournamets of $ 3.30 if you get the first place you can get a good money.

I have just started my backroll again after loosing my last one ($250) in mad on tilt session of rush poker. I takes time, but over the last four weeks I have built up a total of $37 on four poker sites. I am currently playing the micro stakes ring games on FT and making about $1 a day for 2 hours work. In the first two weeks I played freerolls every night and cashed in three times. With the $5 I won from the free rolles I have been slowly building my roll. For my initial $250 I made I depositied $20. Took me 6 months to get the $250. I am playing better poker now and I hope to make $350 by Cristmas and will work on more diciplined play next year. (no Rush poker) This entire bankroll will be free money!

You can definitely build a bankroll off of freerolls. It has been done by many people, but it can be very difficult to do as well. If depositing isn't an option, I say stick to this plan. If you can deposit, I say go ahead and do so. You can still play freerolls if you wish or you can have the option of playing in real money games.

If you do deposit, though, make it a big enough deposit for the limits you plan on playing. I don't like the idea of depositing $20 and grinding 2nl with only 10 buy-ins. It's silly. Yes, you could grind it up but you can run bad just as easily. If you're going to play in real money games, you might as well start following a good BRM plan from the start.

How much to deposit depends on what time of game you play. For cash games: 30-40 buy-ins (100 BBs) is good, for SNGs: 50 buy-ins is good, for MTTs: 100 buy-ins is good.

This might be a bit nitty for BRM standards, but it'll keep you from busting. ...Not saying it's impossible to go busto, but it'll be a lot harder with 40 buy-ins @ 2nl vs 10 buy-ins.

I don't think 40 buy-ins for cash is nitty at all. I know a lot of people that use 100 buy-in rules for their cash game play, and I myself use 50 buy-ins and am working on spreading that more. You can never be too safe. I know that when many people are playing at the micro stakes, they think that it's hard to get excited about a 0.50-$10 pot being a huge pot to win, so just think of it in terms on BBs and it makes it seem like more of an accomplishment.

I thin a good way to build a beginners bankroll is to play the multitable sng´s on pokerstars. Lets say u have 10 bucks, then play the 10cent 360mans (turbo), then the 25cent 45man. They are rakefree ! If u have 40 -50 bucks, then play the $1.10 and the 3.25 45man´s and if you reach 150 bucks, then try the 180mans for $2.20. Sllowly but steady...
