Hello there guys,
I'm new in here and I have decided to make my 1st thread.
I'm playing poker for quite a while now and like every player, I have experienced almost everything either possible and impossible in the game. But there is one thing I still can't figure out. I still haven't find a way to keep myself cool during the session. After first or at the latest second bad beat I usually start to be tilted and that's exactly the moment when my A game is gone and I mostly start losing.
So my question is bassicaly easy but insuperable for me. What is the best way to calm down after bad beat? Would be happy if you guys could give me some advices, your personal experiences or suggestions.. whatever.. ;);)

The best way to cool down is to remember it's just a game, and to get up and walk away for a bit, clear the mind.

Best thing you can do is not get angry in the first place.

You need to accept that bad beats are part of the game, understand how brutal variance can be, and apply good BRM. These things will help you not to get angry at beats.

Also, remember that success is playing a hand well, not necessarily winning it.

Very well said.

I would like to add a few things.

Listen to music. Calm down. Take a walk.

How bad do you want to be a winning player?

If you want to be a winner over the long term, you must avoid tilt. No one is perfect, but you have to manage your emotions, or you will not be a winner in the end.

Just brush it off, and don't change the way you play. Do not play loose, do not try to go after the guy who sucked you out, and do not let yourself become super-aggressive and spew.

Just take a minute, gather your thoughts, and remind yourself to play well. If you can't play well, quit until you can again.

Managing your emotions is one of the most important factors in being a winning player. Trust me, it took me a while before I learned this lesson. And I STILL have times when I spew.

One bad bout of tilt can decimate a bankroll.

I just thought of it.....

Listen to "Back to the rivers of belief" by Enigma. From the album "MCMXC A.D."

Get that entire album. Very relaxing and calming.

I usually try to figure out what happened, just kinda replay it in my mind, think should I have played it more aggressively because they were chasin ,or should I just have called or folded because they hit there card ,how lucky am I feeling, or was it just a donk with one out left an they hit it on the river, that usually calms me down enough to keep playing, if not I just stop, I get more pissed at myself afterwards because I knew I should have just stop spewing my br away,it does take awhile to learn this, but the last reason was the one that made it click with me

in my opinion we should not try to blame the bad play that a moment ago you just made, as this begins to torturate psychologically. if you can control your bad actions will achieve quietly be cold, and clear of mind to be able to give your best game!

I was at a final table of a tournament last night with AA. After a villain raises and I re-raised, he says "Beast Mode!" in the chat box, and then goes all-in. Of course I snap call, and he flips over KK. And of course the king comes on the river.

Meh, it happens. What are you going to do? Start folding AA pre-flop? That's not a good play.

If you can separate yourself from the result of the hand, and instead look at the play/move you made, then that helps you be more calm for when you get unlucky. And that takes a long time to get good at, and hopefully you don't tilt away too much of your bankroll in the process.

I first thing I do after a bad beat is to get off the computer to go to the fridge and take a glass of water and I stare back despeus and analyzing the hand thinking I lost the reason that I lost and stuff, so I pass the tilt :):pepsi:

About tw weeks ago I had some awful bad beats. It was horrible but I stopped playing for 3 - 4 days, I calmed down and now I forgot about them. I suggest you to do the same.

Hi my pokerpal
This things always happen .
Take a breath and leave the table for a while, go out take a little air, don´t think about the hand that you lost.
Think another thing is hard but you can do it.
When you are ok sit down back and imagine that the game just started, don´t try to revenge .
Calm down and play well.

Usually after the first or second bad beat agent may go into "tilt" and everything to lose in the tournament, tournament hours may fall into two hands of "tilt". What I usually do in such a situation is to leave the front of the computer, I'll have some juice, water ... take some of the focus of that hand, when I go back to being so focused and continue playing in the tournament right.

I think there's no general rule. Something that can work for someone not necessarily will work for everybody. It depends on each individual... BTW, I'm still working on finding mine. :p

When you are loosing and you are tilt then don't play other tournaments or cash games and lose your money for nothing.
The best way to calm down after bad beat is to go outside, maybe drink some beer and try to clear you mind.

If playing cash games, log off, and do something totally unrelated to poker for awhile.

If playing a tournament, just accept that they happen, that the roles could just have easily been reversed, take a breath, and play on.

If I get bad beat when the other play makes am mistake I just remember that, they made a mistake.

For example I was playing a sit go and I was heads up and I got it all in with AA. I was sure I was going to make first place and win! I ended up losing and coming in second. They had like Q6 or something. I was frustrated for a few minutes but then I let it go. After all if I can get in all in preflop heads up with the best starting hand that is a good thing.

This is very inspirating. But anyway, It's so hard to manage emotions, especially negative ones. Guess the best way to avoid tilt would be to play all the way without them, but I'm not a robot.
Everytime I'm tilted I really loosen up and start chasing it back again and that's usually tragedy for my Broll.
I'm trying to work on this very hard as I want to be winning player veeery bad, actually there was a times when I already was. But somehow I tilted out all the roll which I was making for a long time everytime and it usually taked just a few really bad sessions.
I trying to work on this issue very hard. I even started to play hyper-turbo HUSNGs ,which are the games with maybe the biggest variation available, just to work on it. Have to say, that not very successfully so far.
Listening music is a good idea, and thank you for that recommendation, I'll definitely put it on my new playlist!:icon_thum

That's true, but it is just so difficult to think about it this way during the game. It's better to win the hand even played like spew than to play it all the way right and lose it. Or at least from a $$$ point of view.
But in general the idea is cool, I like it.
