It depends what type of Poker you are playing. The general BRM(Bankroll Management) guidelines are:

Cash Games - 20x Buyins
Sit & Go - 40x Buyins
MTTs - 80-100x Buyins

If you multitable then it's good practice to have this number of Buyins for EACH table that you play on. For example. If you are an NL2 cash grinder then you need a bankroll of 20 x $2 = $40. If you play on 4 tables at a time then a bankroll of 4 x $40 = $160 would be good. If you're 4-tabling $7 SNGs then a good bankroll would be $7 x 40 x 4 = $1120 but $1000 would be fine too. It all really depends on your winrate. If you are only a marginal winner then you need a larger bankroll as your swings will be deeper than a player who is crushing their limit.

Using these guidelines for your bankroll of $5000, I recommend the following:

-Play NL200 Cash Games Maximum or even NL100 as this will give you some nice breathing space (25-30 Buyins). If you play on 4 Tables then I recommend NL50.

-For Sit and Go's I think you should not play higher than $100 Buyins and drop this to $30 Buyins if you play on 4 Tables. Or $60 Buyin if you play on just 2 tables. You have 50 Buyins for $100 SNGs which is fine.

-If you're an MTT player then you have a good bankroll for $50 Buyin tournaments (100 Buyins). Again divide this figure by the number of tables you play on. So you could limit yourself to $11 tournaments if you play on 4 tables.

If you follow this advice, you are very unlikely to go broke.

Yes some luck will have been involved but I don't think any Poker player can turn $5 into $5000 using only luck. They will have to have had some good instincts and skills to do this.

The question is also over what period of time this happened? I think, it is doable to go from zero to $5000. But it just takes more time, than starting with a br of $100. Of course it is also depending on how much you play daily. For beginners in my opinion the best br is to start from zero by freerolling. If you are experienced player and open a new account in a room, then you should transfer what you need to play your limits comfortably. Or maybe also what is needed to cash out some first depositor bonus, also depending on how much you are able to play.

depends on the games you are playing. tournaments I would suggest atleast 100 buy ins, cash games you can get away with 50-100 buyins

I mostly grind microstakes and the players are very soft so I like starting with around 20 buyins and then when I have a good amount to work with I try to stick to 30-40 buyins.

Congrats for your bankroll. you are on a good progress do follow your mind and strict guidelines in buy ins. I believe the first comment on standard buy ins will help you to see the standards. again its your ability to play good game and keep the control on your affordability. Good luck in the future games.

I would say $215 best bankroll start put it all on the sunday million on pokerstars and take it down all $170,000 of it in one hard nights work good luck.:D
Then exercise proper bankroll management when there is a proper bankroll to actually manage 5k is great in 2 years and all fair play to you sir I am down money but that can be earned in 4 weeks working in a factory.
Take a shot and join the wealthy few who have won major tournaments aim for it wish you success good luck.:top:

Jesus, nice profit!
Imagine if you started with $1,000 though. Do you think you could make that $50,000?

I agree with the 2 years because if you build your bank roll slowly after time it will get there.

And tonight i am going to start doing that and i can build mine that high i all ways win a little bit then get in higher tournaments to make more and i lose it. Hope i can but we will see

have started with $ 10 or $ 5 and have more than $ 5k that is very good but I do not know anyone who has achieved it, if I have heard that they have achieved it but I do not know any, so I can not say if it is true or not .
Regarding your question about the banckroll; It all depends on how many dollars you have to invest, but what I do recommend is not to invest more than 2% to be able to make a good management of your bankroll

I personally think sometimes luck and sometimes it's how much interest you have put along the carrier and what you have learnt and how much you study to better your game. The bankroll to start would depend how much you can start with and how much knowledge you know about the game you want to start playing.

freerolls are the best option for somebody who doesnt have any extra dough to deposit. However, it will take you much much longer to play in any credible stakes if you are looking to start from 0. I would start with 100$ and see if you can turn it into something, you should have plenty of buy ins for small sng and NL2.

When I started playing poker, my bankroll was only $ 20. Then I thought it was very small, but now I understand that it was absolutely enough. I do not see the need to invest in the game more than $ 10-20. Good luck.

That's impressive! You're good. I think you will achieve more. If for 2 years you have increased your bankroll by 50 times, then in a few years we will see you with awards in your hands! Good luck.
