list was active online players only playing from all networks during same time period. im with you though, the numbers seem low and dont account for free sites.

There are 4,591,298(1,429,943 of them in the US) online poker players listed at the Univ. of Hamburg poker database. This is unclear, because many players have lots of screen names due to sites opening, closing and merging with other networks.

I would say you're number is conservative, but pretty close. The best estimates so far I've seen.

I've seen over 300K on Stars at one time, so this list is BS.

Most of them are either playing with their own money or are freerolling.

Since only decent and better players get stacked (with a few exceptions) these

would have their own money to play aswell - just maybe not for the stake they're playing at.

populaton of poker....including Holdem, razz, omaha...etc etc.
I would say...at least 60% of the family owns a poker....
if you count these casual players in...both online and live.. all kinds of poker games all together.

world population X60% at least is the number = therefore over at least 4.8 billion.

The biggest poker room, poker stars had 50 million registered users on November 7th, 2012. The United States estimate of online players is around 13.5 million, which seems to be a pretty good estimate. Getting an exact number is virtually impossible due to players having accounts at different rooms or networks, deceased players accounts, players that lost interest, and multi-accounts.

@imafin, those numbers look like the daily number of players on Poker Stars, on which i have seen a low of around 35,000, to a high of 477,000. LOL, I played in a free roll special before they dropped U.S. players, that had 88,656 players. Those figures are "for the planet" are grossly inaccurate.

Very hard thing to measure. So many different sites and as some people have said so many people have multiple accounts and different usernames for different accounts. If I was to hazard a guess of unique individual players I would put it somewhere at between 30-70 million

As I play on pokerstars at the moment they give a figure of 211,968 players online.
