Pot and online poker! :p:eek::cool::D

From NYTimes.com:

"...the (Obama) administration created an online “Citizen’s Briefing Book” for people to submit ideas to the president. “The best-rated ones will rise to the top, and after the Inauguration, we’ll print them out and gather them into a binder like the ones the president receives every day from experts and advisors,” Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama, wrote to supporters.
They received 44,000 proposals and 1.4 million votes for those proposals. The results were quietly published, but they were embarrassing — not so much to the administration as to us, the ones we’ve been waiting for.
In the middle of two wars and an economic meltdown, the highest-ranking idea was to legalize marijuana, an idea nearly twice as popular as repealing the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy. Legalizing online poker topped the technology ideas, twice as popular as nationwide wi-fi..."

Your point?
Legalizing pot and allowing online poker are what Amercans say they want? According to proposals and votes from over 1.4 million people sent to Obama's Citizen’s Briefing Book?

Is that clearer?

Points of information for discussion perhaps?

You cite the New York Times as your source, you may as well quote the tooth fairy.

Yeah, now let's see if he actually does anything about it. It's nice that he put up a website to ask for input, but I won't give him credit for bothering to ask unless we see actual results come out of it. Asking for input then ignoring the top items, scrapping the program, or some such approach would be greatly publicized by Obama opponents and would be very detrimental to his image and political standing (president or not).

Interesting, but I doubt those will be legal anytime soon.

This is part of the article which explains a reference in the original quote upstairs and explains the mindthink behind this phenomenon, i.e. quasi democracy in cyberspace:

"President Obama declared during the campaign that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” That messianic phrase held the promise of a new style of politics in this time of tweets and pokes. But it was vague, a paradigm slipped casually into our drinks. To date, the taste has proven bittersweet."

Cheers!!

It is becoming insane. The President of the United States sits down to read proposals and it is like reading the Sunday comics

I read an article that said that a lot of people desperate for money with all the layoffs are resorting to selling pot. Here in California there are legal places to buy it with a prescription but you know there are doctors just selling prescriptions. These places pay taxes just like any other company. I'm not advocating pot and don't smoke it myself but wanted to point this out. Not sure I have a point here...I lose my train of thought sometimes.

^^^Exactly! Let's see if Obama actually does something about these top items.

The tax money this government could be collecting from both could solve a lot of problems.

I say make them both legal and for adults over the age of 18. While they are at it lower the drinking age to 18.

If you can fight/die in a war you should be able to have a beer with your friends before you go and do it.

In 2006, the taxes collected by the national gov. on cigs was just shy of $15 Billion. ($14,974,713,000)

Even if the cumulative total of taxes of both was only equal to the 2006 total for cigs, it would completely pay for Obamas health care plan.

We should withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan anyway as well. Seriously why are we still there?

What this american wants is the no deposit bonuses all the UK players get to try their site.. They get 100 dollars at times and this is without going through bankroll sites or any of that nonsense, whenever I look for a good poker room the UK ones are the only ones that have the nice bonuses!!!

Cat in Window 24/7 live show should have been at the top of the list, IMO.

In England you can pretty much do everything when you hit 18. I don't think that's a reason to follow suit though, you might end up like us.

The idea of our government ever doing something like this is laughable. I envy you and your ploitical system, even if it is by no means perfect.

This is so true. People who smoke pot are harmless. If anything munchie sales will go up and if the government sells the pot, BOOM!! recession over. If america wants to keep going with the war on drugs, get the crack of the streets. But no you have coppers hasseling kids for dime bags of weed when they should be after the stereotypical crack bums ruining peoples lives.
