I just happened to stumble across Chris Moneymaker at a limit ring table.

Isometimes log into fulltilt just so i can watch the pros :p
you can easily find them by looking for the tables writtin in a red font. The players names are also red.
kind of interesting seeing them play, and just plain observing :)

Well, Timmy's a little bit of a liar.......:)I told him about Chris being at that ring table. Like Chuck, I've just watched the pros play before, whether it's at PS or FullTilt. It's kind of educational, watching their gameplay, if you could see their cards (a la ESPN/Travel Channel tourneys) it'd be even better.
Oh, and to quiet any qualms-I am NOT mad at Tim, just giving him guff.

I've never seen a pro play before... :)

Should he even be considered a pro? He's still an amateur with a bracelet and a million bucks in his account, in my opinion.

IMO, no, he's not a pro, but he's definitely a champion. He did have very very lucky wins in several hands, ie-the one with Phil Ivey. But he DID win a bracelet, a feat most of us have not accomplished. He got the $2.5 million prize, and that does make him a champion. Me, I'm still $1 million away from being a millionare :) And if anyone disputes him being a champion, think of it this way; it only takes a person to rob a home ONCE to be considered a thief.

His picture's on the wall. He's a god...not to mention the fact he's responsible for the boom...whether he's pro or not is debatable...do you have to apply for membership somewhere or just say "I'm a pro"...? lol

Probably the Luckiest Amatuer in the world (definately NOT a god) but like wsorbust said....He's got his picture on the wall and no one can take that away from him. I've seen him play a couple times on T.V. since and he has yet to do well in anything I've seen.

A god to some...probably many. . .

I'd say Robert Varkonyi was the luckiest amateur...the year after he won he hired a professor that taught him to memorize which cards to play....lol

When I was in vegas in March Chip Reese was playing at the table next to me at the Las Vegas Hilton card room.

They had a big tournament like 200k or something you had to log at least 40 hours to qualify for it.

Was like 40 hours = 1000 chips, 50 = 1500, 60 = 2000 (something like that)

He was there just getting hours for the tourney. Anyway, i played like 50 hours while i was there, unfortunately couldn't go back for the tourney :(

My online dictionary says that a professional is one who "Engages in a given activity as a source of livelihood". Well, 2.5 million would make my hood quite lively!

On the other hand, the next definition says "having shown great skill/expert". Well, the jury is definately still out on that one. Definately not setting the same example as Fossilman!

Na. It's like in bowling....lol...to be considered a professional in a specific field you have to qualify for membership in the association by meeting certain guidelines.

...I just looked it up...Poker has no such thing. Labeling one's self as "pro" is all that is needed.

Well then, I DECLARE MYSELF A PRO! :p

Cool. Does that work with other activities also? As long as there is no association?

Okay, I DECLARE MYSELF A PROFESSIONAL BIKINI WAXER!

Hey, this is fun!

I think the irony with Moneymaker is that he's probably a better player NOW than when he won the wsop. I'm a bit suprised at some of the negative responses toward him. He's sort of the pioneer of the amature player taking the WSOP by storm. After him was David Williams (who ironically was taught by Marcel Luske DURING the main event!) and Steve Dannenman...yet I don't hear people bash either of these players..

I dunno. Did you see Moneymaker on Poker Superstars II? He looked really intimidated by the other pros and got spanked pretty badly. He hasn't made any noise in anything major since 2003. Did he even cash in 2004 WSOP? Can't remember. I think he's a great guy and I root for him, but I think the luck is gone and now he's in over his head.

As for Williams & Dannenman: Neither has shown any signs of being intimidated. Williams is still successful enough to be noticed (WPT, etc.) and Dannenman is back at his old job, not caring much for big time poker. Not much to bash there.

I honestly don't see the irony...because, of course he's better after winning the World Series. Bashing...? who's bashing? Williams was runner up in the 2004 Series...wasn't that his first time in it too? Runner up also at the WPT in the same year. He made a good showing at last years WSOP also. As for Danneman, who's bashing a guy who basically knows he got lucky...and could care less about poker as a profession. Not I.

how do you find these on pokerstars again , love to have a view of them!

Click on find player and type in Money800. If he's there, it will list the tables and/or tournaments he is at.

Moneymaker did have a cash at the 04 WSOP, he made the final table in Pot Limit Omaha. But other than that he's done squat.

Williams has had many cashes before and after his 2nd place finish in the 04 ME. Including a few wins in Limit Hold 'Em and HOSE at a WSOP Circuit Event this year.

Dannenman had a good finish in the TOC out of 150+ players. He also cashed at the Borgata Poker Open. So we'll see.

I will have to disagree with medeiros13 on David Williams. He has placed very well in the last year or so and has made lots of money in a short period of time. He is almost at 4 million in earnings since his start and like MrSticker said Williams has no fear against other pros or newcomers.
