been having a lot of trouble with beats lately, but i know why.

fancy plays are wasted and do you no good when your playing internet poker.

the reason being they are only successful when your playing against skilled opponents. since the majority of internet players are there for the thrill and could care less about the fundamentals and proper plays. it does you no good for the most part to use anything other then the fundamentals while on your game.

i'm not saying they'll never work but the majority of the time they won't.

when you nod your head and say ahah and recall the time when you tried to narrow the field by raising and reraising while holding pocket A's and you still get 2-3 callers where one of them hits a straight because they're holding pocket 10's, you'll know what i'm saying.

rightfully the 10's and similiar hands should fold because your demonstrating strength and a pair of 10's is just a a middle pair.

the point i'm trying to make is on internet poker it's played with more balls than brains, hahahahahahaha. balls hahahahahahahaha :D

and yes the cojones are needed when you play at times but don't let them get in your way, remember to fold when needed, take caution when your raise is called. this may prevent some bad results.

i for one have experienced the need to grow some cojones. this was about a year ago and i found out that if i didn't start defending my hands and bluffing more i wouldn't ever make any profit. believe me i was worse back then, i played loose passive and add a littlle timidness to it and you've got loser. now if i were tight , passive and timid it wouldn't have been so bad, but i like to see a lot of flops. and i would highly recommend it any time your table allows it, those 2 pair win more than anything.

remember internet poker is about easy access to tournaments and continous games the action junkie's dream. don't get discouraged when your moves don't work and be more cautious when using them.

this is solely my opinion, so don't be harsh or hard on me. i will take some positive criticism.

:D :hmmmm2:

The title of your post is "wasted skills". I would say that the ability to beat a table full of bad players (along with the rake) is a skill and certainly not wasted. It is simply a different set of skills.

Instead of playing maginal situations in such a way as to extract that extra thin value from a table full of regs you are looking to extract what one 2+2 poster calls "fat value" from calling stations. Play tighter and value bet them to death. Play good starting hands in position and when you hit your hand drag the bar. Its not as exciting as bluffing someone with air but it works.

Sometimes the fish will suckout on you but over a large sample of hands you will make money and that, last time I checked, is the goal.

Best wishes,
Bill

Interesting thoughts. I know for myself I am trying to get into the groove of playing again. With a small roll like I got now the donk calls and such are really frustrating me. Even when I win. You do have to think about the stakes/players you are playing. With my smaller roll I know I'm overall playing worse competition. Moves that work against players in CC games won't work alot there. LOL. I sometimes wonder if new players these days even get a fold button lmao. Good post.

I find anyone with stats of VPIP of 40 and above with PF of less than 10 its hard to do any tricky plays etc

Same could be said about Stats of a 28/5 player and sorts.

Unfortunately at micros until I don't know when.. but boring abc poker prevails.
