What do you think is the best way to get through a bad swing, by ether taking a break from playing for however long or practice your breathing and play through it? I've found that if I start running bad and take a day or two off I'll come back playing my best poker. I know some grinders that live by going into lockdown to get through a bad swing but curious what other people think :dontknow:

Hey man the best thing is to stay away from the tables all together. You can just get more and more into a hole when on a bad run. Just take a break. Depending on how bad it is, i would say give it a fews days. Try it up with something small and if its still bad take an extended break and read up and practice and just relax. Don't wanna go broke or in the hole alot with a bad swing and force anything.

It depends. if your playing well but just getting bad beats then I would carry on. But if I have started making bad decisions then I would stop for a while.

Good advice here, I take a little time, walk away, maybe take my son to the park, get some fresh air and focus on something other than poker, come back with a positive attitude and play your A game and hopefully things turn around for you. It may take one tourney or two days worth of grinding but if you are a winning player over all you will come out of it.

You mean 'Tilt'?
If you're tilting, step away.

(no such thing as being 'in' a swing)

I don't walk away until I can feel myself tilting, I will then do something else for half an hour, I try to play through bad swings though.

This,

Logically your question makes no sense at all.

How does when you play your next hands affect your chances of winning?

What I did was switched my game up. I went and played a few MTT's, ended up getting a first place, then the second I cashed for 10xs my BI. Took like a week off from cash games. Then yesterday I played some cash, only like 700 hand, and gained back 40% of my downswing. Of course in at higher stakes now, but if I were just to take a break I wouldn't have gotten that 1st place. which put me in a whole different game going back to cash.

But the tourney pulled me way out of my downswing and put me ahead of it immensely.

When im going through a streak of bad luck or running bad i try to play through it and focus on playing solid.. This is the best time to work on managing stress and how you handle bad beats.. If you can keep yourself calm during a long down swing than you will be better prepared to push thru bad beats in a session like nothing happened

i probably wait...

swing makes tilt, tilt makes bad play, and bad play makes more swing....and swing leads to tilt, tilt leads to even bad play and bad play makes u losing more....then cycle, cycle...etc

it is like snowball....bigger and bigger, worst and worst...

I have learned over the past few years to take a break and do something else for a few hours / days whatever it takes to get it out of my system and recharge the batteries.

A downswing is not an entity that has an end to aim for.

Tilt is something that you can control

I don't really tilt much. As far as bad beats, I've taken so many of them I developed a callous on my poker ego. My motto is, "It's all poker".
When my cards start running bad I like to change up games. Sometimes the poker gods get confused and keep giving you the same old junk, but because you are playing 2-7 low ball, voila- it works in your favor.

....but curious what other people think :dontknow:

You should rephrase ”think” with ”do”. People always thinking about something other than what they do.

You dont know when ”bad swing” is gonna start and end because I think is not measured by money in the account. I think the term is determined more by the changes in your game. When the change became apparent then you realize youre in a ”bad swing” and thats when you take a break to reevaluate your game.
If you do not stop you may get stuck with bad habits.

Take a break whenever you're tired and do your best not to chase losses. Make sure you play when you are fresh and you can really concentrate and there are no distractions.

I take it on a situational basis. Really, its all in your head so ill usually play through it but sometimes your brain feels like it needs a break

when your getting unlucky swings not much you can do about it, the question is if you are on tilt and causing an even worse swing then take a break if not just play through it and maybe tighten up a little.

Running Bad Remedy?

So I'm sure everybody has had this before. I've been running terribly the last couple weeks. Absolutely terrible. I have a ton of bad beat stories, but of course nobody wants to hear any of them.

I will also concede that I have been a little irritated and played some hands poorly as well.

Anyways, curious as to what everybody does when they are a little tilted or can't seem to get anything going.
