Bubbasbestbabe had the excellent idea in another thread to email President Bush should you oppose the passing of the Port Security Bill. If you all recall, this is the bill with which unscrupulous lawmakers tacked on an Internet gambling measure which would prevent US banks and financial institutions from processing payments to online gambling sites. President Bush is expected to sign this bill within the next few weeks.

I urge all American members to email President Bush at president@whitehouse.gov expressing your opposition to not only the under-handed way this measure was tacked on to a completely unrelated "must pass" bill, but also your opposition to banning online poker. This is one of our last chances to stand up for our rights, and tell the government we don't need to be told "what's best" for us, or to have a select few's views and so-called "values" forced upon us. Remind our Commander-in-Chief that we are a nation "for the people, by the people", and that he and indeed the rest of Washington would do well to remember it is the people they represent, not their own agendas and views.

Done it to several people in Washington with that exact reasoning Q. Will they listen? I think probably not, but in case they do... In case they do its worth a shot right? They definitely won't if they don't hear from us, so I say give it a whirl

Absolutely! It's the "oh well, I'll just roll-over and take it" attitude that has gotten our country in the mess that it's in! I for one am a little tired of investing in Vaseline! What about the rest of ya??

Usually people are right when they say if you don't try, you never know. But in this case we all know. First of all, Bush is not going to veto Port Security legislation because an anti-gambling bill got attached to it. He is Mr. Terror War himself. He just isn't going to do that.

Secondly, since it was Republicans that pushed this through, he would support the ban anyway.

You are really wasting your time on this one.

That's great. Why not just hand over your rights and freedoms to them on a silver platter? This is exactly the kind of attitude they're hoping for. Makes it sooo much easier to walk all over us.

Smd, don't get me wrong, I think you're a good guy, but this kind of attitude from not just you, but American society in general, really chaps my hide.

I wondered what happened to that address I gave. I haven't recieved any notice that the President recieved my email. I haven't seen any guys hanging around here with sunglasses on.

If everyone sends an email, they will add up. What is the formula; for every one letter there are 100 who agrees? Write to him. The more he gets, the sooner he will see that people are pissed. In my letter, I tied all of the following with the outcome of being unamerican and turning towards a facist regime : the republican senator who did his thing with the congressional pages, Frist's sneaky bill attachment, how China deals with the internet, torture of detainees and signing this bill.
Hopefully it catches his attention.

By the way JQ, I didn't see that post anymore. Was it because of the link?

I'm not handing my rights over on a silver platter. I've always gone to vote and made my voice heard, and on Nov. 7, I'll do it again and try to oust as many people from Congress who approved this in the first place. But as far as e-mailing Bush goes, my original note says it all. There is no way he'd veto Port Security legislation. If the anti-gambling bill was attached to the budget, maybe it'd be a different story.

And there is a great article on Cardplayer.com that really explains this all in a nutshell. Poker isn't being banned and the sites like partypoker who are overreacting to it are wrong.

Though I think he can do a line-item veto? correct me if I'm wrong. I wrote the SOB to, hey maybe he reads it maybe not but I can say I tried.

After all we got nothing to lose when you really think about it, it's already gone or going.

About the only thing you can do about this whole matter is laugh. :(  Part of this bill's timing is an attempt to divert attention from what's going on in the US and the upcoming elections. There usually is an issue that the Republicans use to divert attention from the real issues. One year it was gay marriages, another flag burning. All controversal but none the stuff that affects the world order.

And yes I knew it was a joke. If it was true Bush wouldn't sign the bill cause then he wouldn't have a chance to get his losses back!:D
