Please, for the love of god and my sanity , stop referring to or rating NLH tournament players as "the best" or "top 100" POKER PLAYERS.

Whether it be GPI or Pkrnews or on CC, it keeps on happening more and more. Look, it is fun to talk about who is the best or what our top ten is, but NLH donkaments are not the end all be all of poker play. In fact I would venture to guess if you took the 100 most profitable poker players over a decade and took out 1 drop/ME top 3's, you might only have a handful of folks in there that are actually predominantly NLH MTT players....you might have close to 10 or less....MTTs, with their ancillary costs like travel, lodging, food, excessive rake at the WS0P and at lower buy in events, are simply not all that profitable live and therefore do not attract the most talented players with some exceptions

I am glad Vanessa has binked a bunch of big buyin/ high profile tournaments. I think Vanessa is a fantastic NLH MTT player...probably in the discussion for the very top grouping.....BUT TO DISCUSS VANESSA SELBST AS BEING ONE OF THE VERY BEST P O K E R PLAYERS ON EARTH IS RIDICULOUS.

I am not picking on Selbst; it just is a recent example which got under my skin.

If you asked Vanessa or Mercier or one of the Germans who is better at overall poker them or someone like Galfond/Ike or Ivey, believe me they would giggle bc it is a ridiculous question.

Cliffs: Stop pretending like people who play predominantly big buy in NLH donkaments are the best players in the world and referring to them as though they were.

I agree, but it's ratings bait. Unless something significant happens in poker legislation or a new up and coming poker website/casino, there isn't much poker "news" to report. Since these folks don't want to go out of business they do the same thing most other news outlets do: embellish, conflate, invent, or otherwise create a story where there isn't one. Sure you could post nothing but hand history discussions, but I wouldn't look for things to change any time soon. Hell, I'd argue the wsop is as guilty as any poker news source of overstating significance; but again, it's part of their business model.

Really? Would anyone want to watch the 10 worst poker players on Earth?

Might get better ratings than the 10 best actually, and certainly funnier......

I think there are many good poker players both live and online, plus there are many players who are very good in the different variants of poker, is omaha, razz, stud, etc. .. so it's hard to say this player x is the best .. if perhaps have their spells as Selbst, who is a great player and is on a roll this year. and part of last year.

Sure, I agree 100%..

GPI only exists because some portion of the public believes that it is a real rating of poker players, when in reality it doesn't even take into account total buyins and ROI...which probably are at least as important as total "points".
what sanity?

My sanity.....

I agree with this...in fact when people argue against the invites into things like the TOC's or NBC HU championships based on solely merit, it is ridiculous.

Watching the 6 best in the world play a STT would be not so fun imho after awhile.

Its hard to say who is the very best, but the elite of poker GENERALLY play very high cash games both online and live (macau of late) bc that is simply the most lucrative arena to play in.
