Hi all, gcrazy8 here. Heading to vegas end of May.
Want to play in a tournament. Looking for the best payback for the buy in.
I know a bunch of the cardchat clan must have played before me there.
What do you rounders suggest?
I'll probably book the casino with the best return.

Best return? It sounds like you are trying to open a savings account, not play a poker tournament. The casino rake on tournaments is pretty standard, so your decision should be what buy in amount suits your level of play: the higher the buy in the tougher the opponents. Disclaimer: I don't have any live poker or Vegas experience, I based my suggestions on common sense.

I did the following, hoped to pass the all-in crazy phase and started playing aggressive conservative mode. that way you can reach the 50+

Every casino has a couple of daily tournaments you can play, I’d suggest just trying a few places if it’s your first time there.

What kind of buy-ins can you afford to play?

I'd like to stay under $250 for buy in. That's why the question.
I'm not aposed to a higher buy in. But if only the top 2 get paid out vs say top 20. that would impact the amount i would be comfortable with laying on the line.
My last/1st time made 9th in a $75 tournament. Paid top 3 or 4.
$100 buy in at cash game left up $120. And yes i played for a couple hours, it wasn't an all in hit an go.
Not bad for the only 2 times sitting at the tables. And there lies the other aspect to the question. Would love to sit all day playing poker...wife would not.
So limited time for poker.

The Aria tournaments are good. They are $125 or $150 Mon-Thurs and start at 1pm. Fri-Sun they are $240 and start at 11am with a 20k stack - love these tournaments!

The $235 afternoon tournaments at the Rio get huge fields.
