I am going to Vegas for the first time at the end of April. I am going to play some 1/2 but was also interested in playing some tournaments.

I have two questions:

1. Can anyone recommend a good tourney under $100? I know most of the daily events under $100 are going to be a poor structure, but I have found a few that were not as bad. The Planet Hollywood tourney looks to be reasonable in comparison. I have gone on AVP to check out the tourneys but its a lot to look through. I'm hoping someone here has some experience that can lead me in the right direction :)

2. Where are the softest cash games? I imagine most 1/2 live are pretty soft, but wasnt sure if one casino was better known for softer games?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I have heard good things about the tournaments at Binion's in downtown Vegas. Softer $1/$2 games are going to be at your more touristy casinos without a heavy tournament load.

I was about to say - this thread seems a bit familiar ;)

I went just this past month and was in your same boat. I checked out the Aria but I couldn't afford the time at the felt with the amount of business I needed to take care of while in town. I actually ended up playing the PH tournament, and it was pretty soft competition. I busted out with my pocket pair hitting trips against another pocket pair hitting trips bigger than mine. After that I was donezo.

Aria did seem pretty nice. I just wish i was able to devote the time to it.

Thanks for the response Kid - I just looked it up and am not sure I would be able to dedicate that time either. I am going on business and prob need a 5 hour max, so I can be coherent at the conference the next day :)

Yea definitely can not do the Aria in 5 hours. It is more like 8-9.

MGM always has great 2NL action.

+1 on spending the extra for the Aria. I've played some of the sub-$100 MTTs and they just suck. If you are going to invest in an experience - why not make it worthwhile?

Coherence at conferences is vastly overrated. Unless you are presenting.

MGM is a pretty good place to play, the air is decent and there are a lot of tables open, most of the day. I haven't been for a while, but they were also running a daily tourney around 7 or 8 pm each night that wasn't a hugh buy in (about $60 or $70) that was pretty good, I have cashed in that one before.

If you look closely, you can find low to medium dollar tournies starting all the time, I think it's binions that has one that starts at 3AM. There are plenty of people in Vegas who do nothing but go place to place hitting each tourney in a day trying to make a living. Ask around, most of them will know.

Aria is really nice as well. If you are playing NL games, the blinds aren't what is going to get you anyway!

Missed this. The tournament structure is better than most of the tournaments that are lower buy-ins - those tend to play out like turbo sng's. They get a decent number of players in the Aria tournies. There are plenty of inexperienced players in them. The tournament staff is the best anywhere. The seats are the most comforatable anywhere. I could go on and on lol.

Haha, I get the feeling you could - but all very good points. If I find I can free up that kind of time, I will definitely get in one. Thanks for the advice :)

You are spoiled for choice in terms of where to stay. Depends on your budget and what you want from the hotel. Not sure about the SnG's but I am sure some of the guys on here will be able to point you in the right direction.

If you have the budget - look at a room at the Rio. You will have direct access to the WSOP floor, and you won't have to commute to/from at the end of the day. You can also play the MTT's that they run on the side without worrying about how to get back to your hotel at 3AM.

Otherwise, there's a ton of choices - like Jilly sez - what's your budget? Be careful that you don't go too cheap like the Quad. If you can't handle the noise, the price won't really matter. Good sleep is a must for a multi-day tournament.

The cost for rooms at the Rio during the WSOP are ridiculous. I am staying at the Vdara for less - and it is luxurious and has a kitchen lol.

Good to know. Kitchens are one of the reasons I like the Cosmo so much.

I prefer Luxor. Plenty of tourists. Also not a popular room among locals. Final bonus lounge is close enough to hear the band in the venings.
