i noticed in a few online torneys I been in people use the clock. They use it all up on every hand especially close to itm. Are they allowed to do this in live tourneys? i mean like 5+ hands in a row? Its just annoying when its on consecatively for 5 or more straight hands.

Live tournaments unless someone calls clock on you, you can take as much time as you want. Now as you pointed out when it happens on a regular basis someone at the table may call over the floor person. As for online, as far as I know the programs are set up so that you play the same amount of hands at each blind level as everyone else, no matte how long it takes you to play those hands. I.e. if someone seems like they're purposely delaying their actions to make it last longer (play less hands) it doesn't really help. The computer will still make you play the amount of hands at that blind to catch up to the other tables as much as possible (at least that's what I've come to find is the truth).

People will get real pissed real fast live, and it will get stopped quickly. Most of the time people just won't try it using clock with intent to stall. It's not normally in your best interest anyway. There's really nothing you as another player can do about it though online.

That's not right, until hand-for-hand play (normally 1 player until ITM) the blind are based solely on time. And delaying blind levels is not normally the purpose anyway, they just want to be able to fold every hand until a short stack at another table busts.

I can only go on what I've seen on bodog, when even after the break we come back and are still at the same blind level as before the break (which shouldn't occur according to the time). i've seen it happen on more then one occasion which can only mean that it is making my specific table play the same number of hands at that level...

well in online play you only have a certain amount of clock per break.

at full tilt i believe its like 25 seconds or something.....so say you use your whole 25 sec on 1 hand.....i dont think you can use it again util the next break

Online the clock is a perfectly valid tactic. Learn that you can use it to your advantage as well.

yup

You can use any legal means necessary to win,so if your shortstacked just before the money,I would use the clock and it has paid off more than once.Id rather place slightly in the money, than to play 2+ hours for nothing.

as poker players our goal is to make intelligent descisions. if i'm shortstacked around bubble time i will delay the game to get itm, its the smart move. i have seen people do it early in the game which is aggravating but late in the game i expect it to happen.

Every tournament on bodog does that. For 1 hand after break, you are still at the old blind level, then the next hand it goes up.

i dont mind the people stallin to make the money. no big deal. the only gripe i would have is when you catch joe schmoe raising your blind for the 100th time and you shove back bc you have a hand and he goes into the tank and will spend his whole clock there knowing damn well he is going to fold. a touch annoying.

I've used my excess clock online on pokerstars to my advantage in playing hands. For example say I flop the nuts straight on a rainbow board and I felt I was vs some ace/ak holder who now has top pair/top two pair and he raises into me, I've been in this kind of situation and waited for my excess timer to start ticking (knowing full well I will go all in and knew it the instant I saw the flop and his bet) but stalling it makes the opponents think I was on say qk two pair and I am debating to myself whether he has a better two pair. ofc I know he does, and I know I have him beat. But yeah then I go all in after 40sec and he instantly calls and we flip and I smile. Done this more than once in tournaments especially at later stages. Never abused it to drag out time though.

i only use the clock if i really need mor time to think i dont like it when ppl do it just to drag out the time its annoying mabe i might do it occasionally just to quickly go to the toilet if i am reall bursting for 1 :):) irssi i also use that tactic some times but some ppl no ure doing it just to make them think that you have middle pair or not a very good kicker but i does work most of the time

The reason people often do it online is that there are so many more distractions, weather it being needing the loo, your wife/gf/mothers made your dinner, or the the door or phone going.

nothingu can do about the clock, clean the kitchen or use the bathroom, play with the kids because near the ITM position all the small stacks are going to slow play the clock. I have done it and everybody here has, it is a tool for a short stack just like alot of chips are a tool for a big stack near the bubble where they take advantage. Just all in fun, grin and bear it. see u on the felts.

i usually have my mind made up by the time it comes around to me unless someone's thrown me off on a bet so i play it fast i guess. i have employed the 'think-check' a few times. i doubt it works but who knows. you know, the 'ol "man, i got nothing, i'd fold to anyone's bet, i'd really like to see another card that could drastically change things"...so if you see me stall and check, usually doesn't happen. but, if you do, i got nothing...you better raise me. outside of that, i try to be courteous with time allotted

Its worse on ultimatebet... every player has like a whole damn minute extra time, even if they don't ask for it its automatically activated so the first hand in the freerolls usually takes about ten minutes to get around the table cuz of all the sitouts.

The clock is a legal and valid means to use online, can be annoying, but is part of the game...
