Hi there... Poker has seemed to snatch up another late-bloomer into its fold, and I'm thankful for it! I do have a question I would like to ask, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere, nor do I know exactly how to "search" for this question to see if it has already been answered.

When playing a poker game with a group, do you use a single deck and deal from it, or do you use 2 decks, switching between them? The reason I ask is someone I know mentioned something about using 2 decks, but I have no idea if he was serious.

Also, I'm holding my first "Pool & Poker Party" on Thursday... hopefully we'll have 3-4 hours of Poker, BBQ Burgers & Fries, and then some relaxation for everyone in the hottub :)

Unless you want your guests to take a dip in the pool while you shuffle before each hand, better make it 2 decks. While one is in play, the other can be shuffled by the person who will be dealer next hand. When the current hand is over, the newly shuffled deck can be immediately dealt in the new hand while the deck from the last hand can be collected and passed on to be shuffled. Saves time, quicker game. (Make sure the decks are 2 different colors and/or designs.)

I play in one home game that only uses one deck, and in another that uses 2. I find using 2 to actually be cumbersome. Because when it's your turn to shuffle the other deck it can sometimes be taking you away from focusing on things at the table.

The simple answer would be to experiment with both and see which your collective group of players prefers.
