so i became inspired when i saw that another fellow CC member was going from 0 to 10,000,000 play chips. i saw this as a great opportunity to practice proper BRM and my poker skills.

im looking to make a deposit on stars and tilt and have to polish up my skills not only by reading books, but also by playing too, so i just started a couple nights ago playing with play chips.

i'm already up to 350K!! does anybody think play chips help out at all? or is it just a complete waste of time.

also is there a place that you can sell your FULL TILT play chips? if so where?

I think it can give you an idea how the game is basically played at that level. But it really is a waste of time unless you are playing for pure fun and enjoyment.

People are generally not playing for real since money is not involved so it is hard to get a grasp on the way people play when money is involved.

Now, even in real money games some people play like it is play money (cause to them it might be--either playing at lower limits and blowing off steam or just throwing money around)

To learn each level of the game the only real way to be proficient is to learn by experience (of course--books, this site, training sites, tutors--will all help and lessen the amount of time you pick up bad learning experiences)

To be honest--unless you have Zero other choices to play (and you dont since there are a ton of freerolls all over the internet everyday) you should just skip play money.

The time it takes you to make $5 getting 10million play chips (or w/e it is) you could have made the 5 tens times as fast playing freerolls or micro limits (or going to a staking site as a beginner and picking up $1 stakes w/some work).

Of course, if others think different they can post why they think it isnt a waste.

Waste of time, imo. Might give you some hint on how to beat super micro stakes, but beating super micro stakes is lol-easy anyway, so ...

Playing at the play money tables will make you play poker badly. With nothing at risk people will play just about any hand and call just about any bet. No real strategy involved.

There are some tournaments on Full Tilt that cost play money to enter and payout real money.
The numerous freerolls on full tilt payout better though.
However freeroll players could actually be worse than play money players, because at least the play money gamers are interested in a game, and not just attempting to grab free money.

Also, if you join a site like pokerstars or UB you can play micro limits .01/.02 that wont cost you much to get experience.

I agree the freerolls are better than play chips for practice. Play chips are just for fun. Theyre are a lot of freerolls all day long at full tilt, just have to look harder. Once you get passed the first break in the normal ftp freerolls the play gets a little bit better.

Full Tilt also has the micro 1cent/2cent cash tables. I personally like the SnGs better, but the 1.25s have way too high of a fee at 25%.

And, I missed what part of this was about bankroll Management?

hate to say it, but play chips play is way different from real money. before I deposited, I had a taste of play chips a few years back. terrible memories. 6 players seeing a flop at worst, hands never being decided preflop, someone has called all the way with a-x only to see his opponent has the nuts, whatever.

I think that play chips are a great tool to practice with and practice BRM, besides for that nothing special as many people just don't care if they win or lose with them. But for beginners it is great practice and for experts to practice BRM and get even better at the game.
