I was playing in a local Pub League tourney the other day. There were about 6 of us left. I had around 22K chips (you start with 20K) and the blinds were at 1/2K (no antes). I had A-8s and was the BB. One person called and the SB went all-in with 8K. I called and the original caller also called, leaving 3 in the hand with a main pot of 24K. The flop came up dry, so we checked it through. The turn was dry, but I decided to shove and see if I could get the other player out of the hand. I announced all-in, 14K and pushed my chips into the table. Well of course she called. I wound up winning the side pot (the other person was chasing a flush and didn't hit) but losing the main pot.

As my chips were given back to me, but before the next hand was dealt, I noticed that I only got 23K back (4 5K chips and 3 1K chips). I pointed out that I should have gotten 28K back. The person who called me was the chip leader and clearly had me covered. She still had about 60K after the hand. We checked the stack of the guy who won the main pot to make sure he didn't have it, but he had 24K like he was supposed to.

Either the guy who passed me my chips pocketed one of the 5K chips (which I sincerely doubt) or else the lady who was in the hand with me just didn't put in the right number of chips when she called my best (most likely the case). Eventually she said something like, well if you want my chip, have it, and tossed a 5K chip to me. I was a little put off by her attitude, but I really believe she just didn't put in enough chips. I don't think she was trying to scam me, but it was just a little uncomfortable becaise she clearly felt she was doing me a favor and not paying what was owed.

What makes me think she screwed up is that when I went all-in with 14K, I had 2 5K chips and 4 1K chips. When I got the stack pushed to me, there were 4 5K chips and only 3 1K chips. She had taken one of my 1K chips back as change, which means she only put in 2 5K chips instead of 3 when she called my bet.

Either way I will definitely be paying more attention to the pots from here on out.

It's the only kind of live poker I can play with any regularity (nearest casino is 4.5 hours away), so I'm going to keep playing. It is interesting the people you run into, though. Some take it very seriously, others not so much.

Maybe her reason for attitude was she realized she messed up and just didn't want to admit it. At lest it was just an honest mistake and not someone trying to scam you

Or sometimes people will try to take any advantage they can get.

I think you're right Fordman. Plus she may have been mad at herself for chasing a flush with a J-6 and losing to my ace. She should not have called my bet.

fyp

Not sure why you wouldn't choose to just iso-shove over the ss 4bb shove in that spot instead of flatting?
