Um, no, he didn't have an upper pair, but he did have an A. When there are quads on the board, whoever has A as 5th card wins. If the A hits the board, then
it's a chop. Not possible to beat a board like that.
Quads on the board doesn't happen often, but when it does, you want an A. Any A will do.
Kristy should have bet hard on the flop, when she had a boat. Had she done that, she might have taken down the hand and never known that she escaped disaster. On the turn, her boat struck an iceberg and sunk. She made a mistake. It happens. It wasn't fatal. Lucky that.
