How long did it REALLY take for you to get your first Major(major to me is 150 or more) ITM placement and how much? Ive been playing a couple years now and the most I've hit was 150.

What buy-in MTT's are you playing? For someone playing a $22 or $55 MTT, this might be a very feasible task, but if you're playing micro tournament, it's probably going to be much more difficult to make that precise goal.

My first time EVER playing for real money was in a $5.50 MTT on pokerroom.com (no longer playable by US players). I place 1st for like $435. It wasn't a bad way to start off my online poker journey. I'm sure if I looked back on my play I was either SUPER lucky or just ran crazy hot because back then I knew almost nothing about how to play. But hey, I won and that has bankrolled my progress so far.

Been playing micro (.50-5.50) tournaments over a year, probably ~300 and still haven't passed that mark. Only play large 1500-4000 fields, made a handful of final tables but have lost every race when I get there. Gone out between 8th-5th at each, best cash ~$100.

I still have the screenshot from my first "major" MTT cash. It was 4 months after I started playing. I think it was a $10+1 rebuy and I think I only took the add-on.

won and placed several times in SnGs up to $55 buy in.... 1st there is $249 on Tilt.

MTTs play mainly 10+1 and 24+2, the guarantteed and midnight madness tourneys.

Still no significant placement yet.

Once I funded my bank and stepped up my stakes I found my level of success increase dramatically

I've played in several 5 - 10 dollar MTT's and have only cashed in 2, have never wone a cash tournament although I've won a couple of freerolls withover 4000 people in them. I think I haven't wone a cash tournament is because the better players are there. Anyone agree?

I've won a lot of SnG's at 2 to 20 dollar buy ins. I just can't seem to keep my concentraion on track for the long haul and grind of an MTT tournament.

I won a big $33 MTT for $7000 after about 2 months. I was clueless and awful at that point so it was all luck, but gave me a roll to learn how to play properly.

years ago on party poker, about 15 months after starting i played a 10-1 buy in tournament, about 2000 people in it, took 6th worth like $986, nice but still disapointing since i was chip leader from about a hundred left down till shortly before i went out. then 2 days later played a shootout tournament 5-1 about 340 people and took 7-8th i forget but took out another $ 450

Sounds like you haven't played nearly enough mtts to begin assessing your results. Even many hundreds is a small sample for mtts. For obvious reasons you're not going to win nearly as often as your sngos.

I lost 5 or $600 in the first few months of playing on-line in 2004. I didn't play live. The next year I won a couple thousand $$. One of the first win's was $11 PL Hold-em, 373 entrants for $932. I think there was a $3. NL Hold-em win for $1100. After a few months warm-up, I was hot!
That answers your question, but the story wouldn't be complete without adding that aside from a few cashes in 05 and 06, I've lost almost all of my winnings. Cash games are part of the reason, I suck at them, but I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with my MTT stratagy. That's why I'm here, lol. After about a year off from playing for money on-line, I'm back at it again. Not quite as obsessed this time.
Good Luck,
Tom

I got mine my 1st time playing online back on Party in about 2003 or so. I cashed in a $25 or so tourney. Didnt realize that it was out of my bankroll and skill level at the time

My very first cash tournament was my first win. It was a charity tournament at a local restaurant. There where 135 players and we started off with 500 in chips. I got First place and won $1,800. I have had about 5 other wins since then but all under $500 with 2 other first places and about 60 people.

My Best win has been $4.50 in a MTT. I don't like MTTs, but they are a way for me to get the seed money that I need to build up a bank roll. Being a Washington State resident, I can't make a regular deposit, legally...

Sorry for bumping this thread but had to correct something. Just unlocked my opr for Alon's contest and my highest cash is only ~50 . Could've sworn I had a 6th in a dollarment for 80+ but never known opr to be wrong.

Gone out between 8th-5th at each, best cash ~$100.

I've only been playing a year and a half online. I've won 20+ MTT's but I don't even consider myself to be that good, though at the same time I know I'm not a bad player. Lately, however, I've been running horrible, just horrible :(:(:(

My first "major" ITM to me was 4th place in the Tom McEnvoy tournament last spring. I'm still playing off of the $84 I won. (I've won a bit since too... but not as large of a cash)

Can't say I've seen a 'wrong' entry, but I have noticed some results that don't ever get posted. Those are the ones that will hurt when a big cash doesn't make the list at OPR.

The one I noticed was several months ago when I had a decent cash and went to OPR a few days later to see how it affected me, and it never showed up on my list.

OPR can be wrong. I have a $40 and a $25 MTT cash from about 5 months ago that never registered
