Anyone ever play one of these? I won one when I went last year and it sure beat the heck out of any online tournament I've ever won- not in money, but just in pure thrill. Can't wait to get back and play another. For someone who doesn't have a ton of money, these are a great way to spend your time. You really get your money's worth. BTW, I also hit 800 bucks on penny slots at TI.   (not sure if this should have been in the brag forum or not, sorry mod overlords)

I played in a tournament at the Sahara that was right around 40-80 dollars. It was a lot of fun. Ended up making $800 on a five-way chop.

How are the formats of these? I dont know how they are in vegas but around here anything with a very low buy in is a crap shoot. small starting chips and very fast blinds and the rake is outrageous.

TI and Sahara are 2 of the best at that level of buy in. I'd add Caesars morning one as well. Think those 2 are 20 minute levels and about 4k starting chips which is a lot more generous than some rooms in Vegas.

You can't beat the thrill of playing live if you've only played Internet poker. Loads of fun. The games are really soft as well which always helps.

The problem of playing live is that it is an addiction - As comedian Raymond said on a show I saw in Vegas - "In Vegas you do not need a wake up call.... you need a go to sleep call :) :)", It is amazing how you feel awake and ready for the next game even at 3 AM... I wish I will come back to vegas soon, unfortunatly for me it is a 24 hours flight away :-(

I've played the $60 buy-in at Planet Hollywood and cashed. It was right after they opened the room, and I hear its gotten better.

It is the best room I found in Vegas for that kind of money - It is big enough (not smallish in some other hotels) and the people are relaxed and happy. The organizer were very helpful (it was my first live tourney ever there!). So all in all for 60$ it was the best I tried - Venetian too high usually, same for Bellagio, Caesar's and so on and nicer than Paris, MGM and the rest of the lower end.

PH was the other one I wanted to try when I went in March but never got round to it. Similar structure to TI as far as I can remember.
