I've won my way into the Sunday Million about 7 times and have made the money in it about 3 times. My best was 88th for about 1400.00.
In my experiance this is a TIGHT tournament, in early to middle stages nothing fancy just A-game solid survival. Position, pot odds
, premium starting hands and small/medium pocket pairs for cheap flops. As the earlier poster said give the check raise more respect than you might usually, most players are experianced and are check raising for value with a made hand, not to protect a draw.
This tournament is still TIGHT in late stages and you have to pay attention to your stack vs blind escalation, if you let your stack get too low the tall stacks will pick on you. If you're lucky enough to have a tall stack it's amazing how much respect you'll get, loosen up in late position and try a few tricks especially against short stacks avoiding chip leaders. When tall stacks are challenging each other and you've got the button with A/K seriously consider laying it down unless you have really good reads on the players.
Pretty much just play your A-Game, forget that the final table pay off is HUGE! If you're satisfied just making the money, I wouldn't fault you to adjust your playing style just for that, it's actually a pretty good pay off just to be in the money. But then again no guts no glory, bubble time is crunch time, it's a good time to take advantage of short stacks if your an experianced player you'll know what to do.
First time, just play solid, no tricks, watch, learn and enjoy the experiance. it's particulary frustrating to get knocked out early ..... I know the feeling. Usually when you do you will have a made hand and someone will draw out on you, when you analyze it you'll find your opponent had a very good drawing hand/pot odds situation. Like I said it's a tight tournament, theres a 25% chance that you'll get donked in the earlier stages but the play only gets better as the tournament progress's.
But this is just "my" experiance with the Sunday Million others may have a different view, just play your A-game and enjoy the experiance.
Good luck, the Sunday Million is my favorite tournament online, it's a blast, if I could afford it I'd play it every week. But I got to sattellite in like most other shallow pocket players.
