Why do some players sit and wait for the time limit to run out when they know full well that they are going to fold? This is very annoying. Does anyone else agree?

yeah I hate that, usually, it seems to me it's that someone is taking on too many tables at once. Personally I know I can't play more then one table at a time, therefore I just don't do it.

They do it in tourneys so they can time waste with other people at other tables getting knocked out just before the bubble....dont think it happens in cash games unless someone is being a d I c k

Yeah I've seen it as the bubble starts approaching, which makes sense in a way. Once hand for hand play starts, it becomes a useless tactic, since players eliminated on the same hand will be placed according to the size of their starting stacks. Yet the stalling continues which only serves to limit the number of hands that get played before blinds increase.

What really puzzles me are the players that begin stalling right from the opening hand of a tourney. I don't understand what kind of strategy that could possibly be, since most players want to get in as many hands as possible at each level, before blinds go up.

Lots of reasons. Valid reasons for the occasional rundown might be multi-tablers engaged in big pots on other tables, but this should be infrequent and not every hand. If they're doing it all the time then they're either playing too many tables, or their intention is likely some sort of bubble tactic in tourneys, or just trying to tilt opponents.

You see it pretty often in satellites on the bubble where there is a micro stack at the table -- kind of an implicit "collusion" where everyone wants their entire table to cash so to help protect a tiny stack from blinding out, every player will run the time out.

YEP I hate this also ,but have come to expect and know its going to happen. Know the bubble tactic but really dislike it in the begining of a tourney

To do it as a matter of practice is very annoying.
That being said if in a tournament you look over and the level is going up in a very short while and this will impact the short stack significantly it is a valid tactic to let it run a bit. And as stated if at bubble time you see a big battle at another table you may legitimately use it .

I've seen it more on bubble play, was shocked when a short stack got in the money. It does not annoy me that much, but some will do it if they find it will tilt you.
