I find myself tilting toward the end of freerolls. I tend to play more marginal hands and I just want to get it over with. This is part of tilt and while I struggle to manage it, I've found the best thing you can do when on tilt is sit out until you gain your composure especially if you are in the money. It can be very valuable to sit out and in some instances be more profitable than playing pocket aces and getting drawn out on by the river. Is there anyone who has some valuable information about the tilt factor and managing it better?

I tilt hard all the time, where i'm shipping it in with any suited ace alot in cash games... leaving the casino and coming back few days is probably your best bet if its a very bad tilt

One must identify WHY he is tilting. I used to tilt a lot and it kept happening for a while till I started to review the hands and identify when and why it was happening.
I will try to list just a few:

- I folded a hand pre-flop in a spot where I would have won huge
- I opened a good hand and lost being called by trash
- It felt like I was 'out of sync' receiving certain hands in awkward spots
- Got card dead and blinded out for an hour+

etc etc

Once I identified these spots I could work on them.

Best Regards

That's not tilt, that's not being patient and getting bored.

Give yourself something else to do on the side. Play music or listen to a podcast. If all you are doing is single tabling one tournament for hours it can be very boring, especially if you are not playing for prize money that means something to you.

You are never suppose to play hand for hand it is suppose to be action for action of the hand in cash game and action for action of the tournament. Poker is looked at action of action and every 30K hands cash game every 1,500 games MTT and Sit-N-Go. Variance is the boss in MTT's and variance is the short term manager in cash games. Once you realize this tilt goes down.

Any time one is not being "present" and is playing sub-optimally, it's a form of tilt. Since the OP recognizes the problem, it's now a matter of identifying the cause. Subsequently, we work on a solution.

In the case of boredom, I have found that some physical awareness makes a huge difference. Breathing, sitting with excellent posture or even doing a few squats or push-ups between hands is a huge help. Peppering our session with physical activity, focused breathing and staying well hydrated can really contribute to being able to focus for long periods of time.

Boredom is an effect of not being fully present/focused on whatever it is one is doing. It is a symptom of a distracted mind that is chattering to itself about other things than the problem at hand. If one is 100% present and focused on the current domain, there is exactly 0% left over for boredom.

To the OP: Try a Primed Mind subscription for a month. Also consider getting some Elliot Roe MP3s from pokermindcoach.com. Meditation can be a superb tool for improving your ability to focus on a single task for long periods.

GL!

It's best to treat poker as any other video game and the money is just points to be won or lost. It serves no purpose to get so upset that you have to sit out hands and possibly lose out on some big hands. Try to stay calm and move on to the next hand and think about how you can get those points (money) back in a strategic manner.

I also enjoy books by Tommy Angelo. "Painless Poker" is a delightful read. "Elements of Poker" is also excellent.

Losing is a natural thing. No matter how good you are you’ll never have a 100% win rate. It’s important to start accepting a loss as a lesson and not a negative thing. Losing is almost as important as winning because you can always learn so much more from a loss.
