Thoughts about lucky seats/other superstitions
Playing $1/2 holdem at casinos
, it is common for players to change to a recently open seat becuase the previous player in that seat had received good cards or won significant money. While luck is certainly a part of poker, it seems people try to deliberately CONTROL their own luck by changing seats.
Personally, I only change seats to get better position on a particular opponent I am uncomfortable playing out of position against.
I agree poker should be fun, so I don't see a problem with changing seats just for fun, or because your current seat hasn't been dealt many good hands recently. But my point is, not many people change seats for the right reasons. Or more specifically, people seem to care more about feeling lucky than they do about feeling comfortable against their opponents. I don't care how unlucky a particular seat has been in the past few hours. I will sit in the coldest seat in the room if it means getting to act after the hyper-aggressive player.
Changing to a different seat purely because it feels lucky is a perfect example of the ways people concentrate too much on their own cards, on their own situation...instead be concentrating on their opponents.
