well if you flood them then the cards get all wet and you have to get a new deck

I've done it.

In a satellite, I had plenty of chips (can't remember then numbers, but 50+ BBs) and we were on the bubble (something like 8 people left with 7 seats) with a couple of people with less than 3 big blinds. Someone raised ahead of me (not one of the shorties) and there was no point getting involved.

Say you have quarter size average tournament stack but are not yet really short stacked. Three people go all in before you. If you go all in and win, you will come up to average. If you lose, you are out. Versus three RANDOM hands AA is less than 50% and these people think they have something. Fold and wait for a better deal.

i doubt i would ever fold AA preflop unless there were 3-4 people already all in in the hand and i was risking more than 50% of my stack late in a tourney. However, if i was in the $ already and sitting good I would definitely try to build up my stack with AA

in some satellite situations yes.

in some highly manufactured and unrealistic late tournament situations yes.

in all other situations no.

Ive folded them once ever online, in a similar situation to rex described. It was a sunday million sat and i was guarenteed a seat if i folded every hand, no need to get involved.

Just can agree. Bubble play is secure play....if you have enough chips.

I've folded them once, was transferring 20$ to a friend, but had to transfer at least 50$ if done the legal way. So we sat down and I got dealt AA at the first hand, so I raised it up to 19.90 and folded for the last 10 cents. Other then that, I don't think I'll lay them down easily.

it's interesting to me because i agree w/everyone's analysis of when it's better to fold. but i know in a game, no matter what the situation, i just don't see myself folding.

Absolutely, if you are playing razz, it is seldom hard to fold AAx.

In fact, I just did it, this very minute. AA9.

Honestly, I don't know why you would. I can't think of a single situation, other than bubble play in a tournament, when you would fold AA preflop. I mean, this game is entirely built on getting your chips into the middle with the best hand. AA is the best starting hand possible. I've mucked AA plenty of times, but only when the board turned on me, my aces didn't improve, and I felt I was beat. But pre-flop? No way!

So basically your telling us you chip dumped to your friend?
That is against the rules on all poker site and your lucky you didn't get caught.

The only time I have mucked AA pre-flop is in a freeroll. Ten-handed table with 8 sitouts, I colluded with the other guy to take down the blinds in turn.

This may not be ethical but with so many sit outs the tournament had no credibility anyway.

I think near the bubble is the only spot where it might happen in any sort of periodic fashion, as Irexes described.

I was following the wsop Main event threads on another forum and this indeed happened in the main event. I think the money positions started around the 650th position (just going by memory) and as they were playing hand-for-hand somea few players admitted (and I think one showed) that they folded Aces in hopes of making ITM.
