I'm playing a 2-7 triple draw tournament on pokerstars right now and I am sort of frustrated because my 2345, 2346, 7432, etc. draws are all missing over and over. But I'm trying to stay cool.

And after all, it makes me think that bad luck might not even exist so I should suck it up.

If each hand is independent of another, the fact that a draw from a previous hand never got there, doesn't make the player "unlucky" because it happens over and over, they are just all independent events.

So is there such thing as bad luck? Maybe not.

2347 is a really heavy draw hand, 2345 is not as good though. And if you have 3456, then you probably should fold. Perhaps its not just that you are getting unlucky.

i know that, i know i really need to catch a 7 or 8 with a hand like 2345, and that a 7432 has alot more outs...

If there was no bad luck, I wouldn't have any, or anyone else for that matter, vis a vie check out the bad beat thread. The Q though is did you fold to a made hand or a busted bluff?

and 3456 is garbage, because only an 8 improves it to a hand that MIGHT stand up in a multiway pot.

Well, actually I didnt mean for this to be about me being bad beat.

I mean it more for wondering if there are no "unlucky" people, or times when a person is "unlucky" or if it's just the nature of the randomness of the game and the fact that every single hand is independent of the others.

It's just statistics, though I wouldn't say that each hand is independent of the other. People are often emotionally effected by good or bad beats causing them to tilt.

It's all just odds though. If you flop top set and a guy goes all in on a flush draw and hits it it's not that you're an "unlucky person" the randomness of the cards just happened to go against you today. Nothing more to it.

When dealing with cards, randomness, and probabilities, no one is by nature luckier than anyone else.

The Q meant question, eg. did you really fold a winning hand? only if you have a tracker prog will answer that I suppose as you would only know if it was a bad beat then. TBH I don't believe that rng's are truly random and I'll explain why. Tough to explain but I'm a TAG LAG depending on which game I'm playing. Sometimes I can call with any ole crap and win, yet other times I do the same with a nut draw and it never hits. One has to ask oneself why there are so many updates to game progs, yet nothing seems to change except how many times your hand either holds up, or hits. I can hit a losing streak on a site, wait for an update, then hit everything, however implauseible the hand may be. In conclusion, everyone is out to win, but the house wins every time. Decide for yourself.

You can have bad luck once in a while but if you're playing correctly you'll have to win on the long run if the stats say so...
If you keep having "bad luck" all the time there is probably something wrong with your game but I have to admit sometimes you just have one of these days where everything is not going the way you want it!

Welcome to CC Davey!! Don't forget to post an introduction in the Intro section. I like what you have to say above!

I agree, I believe there is such a thing as good luck & bad luck in life in general. Some days, it seems no matter what you do, it's the wrong thing or so many negative things happen all at once you wonder if there is a dark cloud over your head!

Some days (albeit for me they are few and far between) you can't do any wrong! Everything just seems to fall in place and it's like you are walking on water! I had such a day in January of this year. On my way to the casino I went through 11 traffic lights and hit every single one as a green light! I had turned from many different roads, taking back roads to other back roads to avoid most of the main drag and it was amazing that I hit every light as a green one! That night, I took down 1st place in the tourney & more than doubled up at the cash table. It was a sic run & it was Awesome!!!

Now as far as poker goes, I think too many people confuse bad luck (running bad) with bad play, bad decisions, etc; So it's difficult to say for sure if someone is having bad luck in poker or making bad decisions. From my experience playing with thousands of players live & online & seeing all the posts on CC, it's usually the player making bad decisions & NOT bad luck!
