As players, we all have a tendency to overemphasize skill when we are winning, and bad luck when we are losing.

Very true, that's why many players give the advice of getting off when you're running bad.

The more I play the game the more I understand that luck is a big part of the game, even if you have the best hand preflop, flop, turn, you can still loose on the river. Additionaly people playing cards that you do not expect them to be playing like 2 8 offsuit and doing a pot size raise from early position you are holding pocket As flop hits and it is a,2,8 he bets big you bet all in, and they hit the 2 or 8 on the river and take your chips. I chalk most things up to luck most of the time unless I have the nuts.

I think it's absolutely natural to think that way...always better to feel skilled winning and betrayed by luck losing... trying to be realistic would help some times, although if you are skilled, you can still lose because of bad luck and so both parts are partly true (losing = skill+bad luck, winning = skill+less bad luck)
