I was wondering if someone knows if in how taxes for online poker are regulated in Belgium.
I have searched online but can't find a conclusive answer about this.
Some sites say that it is tax free (online and in a casino), but in other places i find that this only counts for money won in the casino.
Even about the tax rate I find different information everywhere. Some say 33%, others say it's like the normal progressive scale as a regular income and others even say that it is a whooping 75%.
If this last one would be true, I would consider moving. Maybe the netherlands would be an option...

Well, man there are many players playing from denmark in pokerstars, and believe me if the tax was 75 percent they wouldnt play...So i guess there is tax but its in normal borders and acceptable.
2.Imagine you deposit 100$ and you lose some, you win some.. and in the end you are again with 100$ thjen you decide to withdrawal and then the authorities takes 75% of your original deposit...Sounds kinda alien... don't you think..
Dont worry play poker and win the rest is not so big deal...
Good luck at the tables man.

Thanks man.
It sounds insane to me too, that's why I was wondering.
At the moment I'm not really playing for money yet, just some freerolls and play money, so it's not an urgent matter, but looking around on the interwebz got me thinking.
I saw some crazy stories that sound too absurd to believe, but absurdity is sometimes normal with the law.

How you say it, it sounds indeed difficult for the tax service to know and to calculate, especially because they cannot just see what's on our bank accounts here, only if they are suspicious they can request it from the bank.

My personal advice to you... just play poker. :)
As soon you start earning some seroius money other than freeroll and playmoney chips, then you should start to think about these problems. You know the phrase - I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...
Good luck at the tables and focus on your game....aaaand don't overthink about these things ;)

Yeah, I know. I don't worry about it at all.
I just got curious and couldn't find anything conclusive.
But, just FYI, I'm planning to reach that bridge :D

You could ask the Belgian Tax Authorities, or if you don't want to do that, do you know any certified accountants?
