Okay so this is a quick and rather useless threat, but I figured I'd take a moment and educated what seems to be a majority of forum user.

This is about my biggest pet peeve "sooted", MY GOD IT MAKES ME CRINGE READING THAT WORD. Can we please please please bury it. It sounds like something a northern German would say,"sooo-t-ed", nothing against the Germans unless they decide to work that word in there language.

The proper spelling is "suited". I play JT suited, I throw away JT sooted because I'm really not sure what the f*** that even is.

So please everyone use suited, because "sooted" makes me want to jump off a bridge. If that's not good enough, another reason is that "suited" is the actual word, proper in the English language. Besides no offense but "sooted" makes you sound like a dull, under educated gambler. "Suited" makes you sound like a real card player. It's "suited" because your cards are matching, ex. K of spades, Q of spades. They match like a nice suit, black pants, black jacket (or whatever other colors you like)...

And that is my rant. Feel free to post your own rant about sooted below!

Loose is the opposite of tight. The opposite of win is lose. Sooted means that your shirt is dirty

Hmmm Kinda funny i have been seeing a few members pointing things out to other members like this .

What does this really mean ?

Is it ones that think they are getting a novel in the forums. we dont have any one proof reading nor do we claim to have a major in spelling.

we do want to communicate about poker to gain more knowledge and become better players.
Seems to me that some like to point out the wrong and dont look at themselves because they are RIGHT and we are WRONG!!!!!!!!

Did not know that posting or playing poker had a right and wrong ???
I thought it depended on you as a player and not what some one else thinks because they play different and will play different situations better or worse then you .

MAYBE some of us shouldnt worry so much about how words are spelled but
whats being stated and not think that they are are only answering the post because they think they are better then others but to give their point of view with their opinion behind it with out ridicule.

Just some thing to think about .

May you dot you I's and cross your T'S before you ok your next post :)

lol, this.

I hate the incorrect "there" used for "their" etc and so on but doesn't make me want to make a thread about it ;) Seriously though OP I'm unsure as to why it frustrates you so much. It isn't because the forum base is stupid, nor does it really make you look uneducated it's just a slang term and there are plenty that go on in poker.

It's like, "But it was sooooooted, that's why I called" People then just started using sooted as opposed to suited, not because they can't spell the correct word and actual thought it was spelt that way, please don't tell me this is what you believe when you see sooted said on a poker forum lol. I'd actually believe if I saw someone using correct English for certain stuff and then saw someone using the "sooted" and other words I'd be more inclined to believe Mr.Poker.Slang was actually the more likely educated real card player than your proper English speaking chap.

Another example; "Here is my giraffe" Clearly a poker slang a terms of graph, the same thing applies for the good old soooooted. There are tons of poker slang words out there I'm sure, not because people are uneducated. Maybe you're uneducated in the poker world, because if you was you would of guessed by now it's just common knowledge and used by tons of poker players. ;) I couldn't care less about what people mean so long as I understand what they are saying and their whole sentence isn't a mess peoples grammar just vary massively from person to person, all of which doesn't mean one is less educated than the other.

Proof Reader Needed

Ok we seem to have members that hate it when words are missed spelled.

How about 1 of them stepping up and proof reading all posts before they get posted?

Why not ? It is a fix to this problem we have with misspelling of words.

Lets get this going so we can get more knowledge of poker going and not rant about the small things that will always be there.

So the threat in this useless thread is that you will jump off a bridge if you have to deal with sooted as a badly misspelled word?

If you have a fireplace, you should probably wait till next summer before jumping....after you have cleaned out your overly sooted flu.

;)

Guys I didn't mean to offend anybody, maybe the people that are offended are the ones who didn't know the difference? Whatever I really don't care if your offended. I never said it makes a player seem "uneducated", I said it makes a player look UNDEReducated. The reason I hate sooted so much is the way I read it in my head. When I read sooted I feel like I just walked in a stupid trap. I will admit I don't know how to use there, they're, and their properly my English is undereducated so I've just defaulted to there all my life. I'm not ashamed I've spoke English all my life, and I'm a native English speaker. Get over it or go make your own rant thread about it.

Nah, but I do feel bad that they can't just brush it off without making a thread about it haha.

No one was offended I don't think, I wasn't anyway was just pointing some stuff out. Yeah I saw what you mean about the undereducated part, but I'd actually disagree because I know the slang term is very commonly used with very good players who are very smart. Obviously if you're unaware which it seems to be the case that it's not actually people who think it's spelt "sooted" but they have just adapted a very common poker slang word.

I feel you seem more offended by MOD's comment about "their" and "there". We was just pointing out in a jokingly manner that it sends you over the edge when people use the sooted word because it's not spelt like that (which as stated is clearly a poker slang word) yet your own actual English seemed off in places. Like I say from my previous comment, peoples grammar doesn't annoy me at all, so long as I can read and understand what they mean actual "theirs" and "there" is irrelevant to me. Obviously we're over it as it was never an issue, I think you're just missing the whole point :)

I guess you need to learn to accept the poker slang, get with the times, get poker educated and get over it ;)

ps: Oh and by no means is my English good, it's far from it. I just thought I'd point that out! :)

Yeah well I'm going to have to wait until next summer anyway. The real question was how high is the bridge? The bridge in question is at the local putt putt course and they've closed down for the winter unfortunately.

I have read and thought hard before posting on this thread but in the end I thought why the hell not.

I am quoting fubarcdn because this just shows how difficult English can be when translated into other languages. Not that I think that our Canadian cousin has used any translation tool here. In England you will find a butt and a fanny are two different things!!

This doesnt help with my poker so I will cease now and wish you all gl. :D :D :D

Yeah I guess I didn't realize it was intentional for the most part, and I'm not really bothered about the there thing because this isn't the first time it's been brought to my attention. The thing that kills me about sooted though is the nasally sound the voice inside my head makes when I read it lol, hopefully I can get over it before I go insane haha.

'soooooooted' is like an insult /putdown
ie. My aces lost when 3rd heart hit the river... of course buddy had 94sooooooted.
(I mean who would ever... EVER say 'suited' in a spot like THAT!?!?)

I have to ask and increase my knowledge of British slang.
What does fanny mean?
I just assumed it meant ass but apparently not.
My league captain keeps calling me fanny so that is what I assumed. :) :)

As others have pointed out, the term "sooted" is a deliberate misspelling of the word "suited" and is often used by those who are conversant in Pokerese.

I believe that it refers to the fact that, although suitedness only improves one's pre-flop equity by about four percent, many players choose to play any two cards that are suited because they are too perty :)p ) to lay down.
