There have been several cases recently of gamers suing casinos for losses that they have suffered.

I tend to side with the casinos in these cases, however, some allegations from this one include plying the customer with alcohol and pills, and even waking him up to gamble more after he had passed out at the table!

Probably just lawyer talk, but what duty do the casinos have to protect gambling addicts from themselves?

In this CNN story, the plaintiff wagered nearly a billion dollars in one year, losing around 127 million. Hard to tell a customer like that "no".

Just one more sign of our society UNWILLING to accept responsibility for ones own actions and looking for someone to blame besides the person staring at them in the mirror. It's why we in the USA can't play online (at all sites) and it's only getting worse. People just look for someone/something else to blame instead of facing the reality that they are incapable of owning up to themselves.

This topic gets me fired up, obviously. Our society is only getting worse as people try and seek excuses. Imho, the US government is the pinnacle of that aura...but I'll refrain from politics here and just shut up as best as I can.

Ture, dat, about responisbility, Volly....but would seem at least also possibly relevant that BARS (or servers) can be held responsible for letting intoxicated people DRIVE....

So it's not impossible to consider a certain point where sicko gamblers should maybe not be continually "served" by the establishments.

And interesting thought.

True Ean, about the intoxication. And I have seen gamblers cut off (from alcohol and removed from the poker table) at the local Indian casino and in Vegas.

But, it's tough to tell when it comes to money. Is Mr Fish using his rent and food money, or merely chump change he happens to carry? What $50 is to one person doesn't mean squat to a guy that may blow $200K and not blink because that barely dents his br.

Either way, it is still going to the individual's responsibility to do what he needs to for himself. Why should I be responsible? And why should I PAY the consequences (read that as FU to the UIGEA) because someone ELSE has a problem they cannot control. Where do my rights enter in because I am being infringed on by someone with a problem?

This is a countersuit because Harrah's went after him for unpaid markers. In NV markers = checks (not IOUs) & are collected under the bad checks laws of this state; if certain criteria exist, it is even considered a felony (intent to defraud). The guy was aware he had a prob because he was barred from the Wynn, due to compulsive gambling & drinking, before he even wandered over to Caesars Palace.

Suing casinos for incured gambling losees.. only in America. What next? Will people will be suing McDonalds for making them fat or cigarette companies because they cause cancer?

All this does is shift responsibility away from the individual and vest it in the state.

If the government told you you couldnt, gamble, smoke, eat fatty food and placed laws to prevent it you the very same people who are suing would be claiming their individual rights had been removed and that they were being forced to live in a state controlled society.

You can't have it both ways, either you want freedom or you don't and the reality of freedom is that you are free to make bad decisions as well as good.

I'm pretty sure there was a case a few years back here that was successful - a guy had lost loads of money, decided he had a problem and asked to be banned from the premises.

After that, the casino let him continue gambling on multiple occasions, where he lost even more money. Because he'd requested a ban, the casino had agreed and then let him back in anyway, he was successful in suing them.

Well, I think that guy who lost the 170 mil is suing because they ,as he says, "encouraged him to gamble while he was drunk and to keep drinking." And, I think there is a law that says you're not allowed to let someone who's drunk gamble. But, I could be wrong on that.

completely agree It is the persons responsibility why should they stop people? There are notices everywhere about gambling awareness and safty. People just don't listen.
