I have read about how some make a living or consistently good profits from this type of game. Lately I am on a break even streak. So I have been researching a lot.

I looked at the odds of starting hands. The odds of possible flops with certain hands. After doing some comparing it is very likely you can go several games without anything playable. So if we do not chip up then we are in push/fold mode. The push/fold strategy is surely a chance situation.

With all that information have I come to the right conclusion that 9 man stt's are more based on luck than skill. I am sure that certain plays can be pulled off at certain levels to add more skill to it.

Is this why variance can be so high at this game? Am I finally starting to understand the concept of this particular game or am I missing something?

it is neither luck nor skill that determines the outcome of these, it all depends on how much u have deposited recently compared to the other players. Large amount deposited = lots of wins. Small amount deposited = card dead/sucked out on constantly. So, if u wanna win just deposit like 100k and play $5 S&Gs and u will be mega rich.

hahaha, nice bw....it's poker, it's up and down. you just need to figure out a way to have more ups than downs. plus the cards suck sometime and patience comes into play. but if putting tons of money in makes you win, then i'm gonna max my credit cards someday.

There are certain STT strategies that guarantee a cash nearly every time. I would recommend playing only Top 10 hands, and maybe some drawing hands if you are in good position and its cheap to call

Poker is a game of Skill where luck plays a part in the short term

Whatever format you play, cash, STT , MTT your long term winnings will be determined by how good your play is in comparison to your opposition

Formulaic methods of playing STT's may work at low stakes levels but this is only because that fixed style of play is better than the game at least some of the opposition plays, the same principle can be applied to cash games at low stakes

You win if you are better than the opponents you play all formats have a mix of good and bad players

Then cant you argue that any final table is also just luck and no skill?
