StoxPoker and CardRunners Announce Merger | Poker News

On Tuesday, poker video instruction sites CardRunners and StoxPoker announced the merger of their extensive training libraries, creating what is termed as the most comprehensive poker training service on the web. With the largest library of poker training videos and a roster of world-class instructors, the two sites will continue to operate separately, with each focusing on different segments of the market, but they will be one company.

StoxRunners or CardPoker? :D

Of the two, CardPoker sounds far more accurately descriptive. :D

I'm just glad I no longer have to wonder whether I should be signed up for StoxPoker instead of CardRunners! It sounds like all their videos will be available on both sites -- at least I hope so. Not that I ever get around to watching all the videos they already have....

I hadn't previously realized that CR was geared more toward high limits and SP toward low and mid-limits.

This isn't a 'full-on' merger like you guys are thinking of. From what it sounds like they're basically pooling their resources and staff, but the actual sites will remain the way they are. Right now both sites are making some (~half dozen) of the other site's videos available, and they're giving limited-time offers for discounted memberships to each others' sites.

So it looks like they'll remain two separate entities, and most of the merger will be behind the scenes from what I gather.

On a related note, stox just upgraded their home page (and soon their videos/forums page too?) and have added a good half dozen or dozen coaches to the roster. Should get exciting, going to have to renew my account soon :)

Love the new coaches. A few FR and almost all small and mid stakes. Also if you're part of Stox you can get a 24-hour CR pass, using it right now, and the memberships are smaller. Still separate sites though and stuff.

Oh, not pooling all the videos? Too bad. Do you guys find Stox to be superior to CardRunners? Seems that it's the site of choice for CC members.

I never tried cardrunners. I stayed at stox because after taking a brief look at the other coaching forums it looked like stox was eerily similar to cardschat in that they were like the down-to-earth forum with the closest-knit community. I hear cardrunners videos are generally of higher stakes, and another thing I hear is they don't do classroom videos like stox does - which are my favourite by the way.

I've heard good things about deucescracked and just may get a subscription there as well. They have tons of classroom vids plus an integrated coaching thingy which I may get into :)

Well from what I saw tonight your first observation is true and the second is false. I watched some extremely good powerpoint classroom-type videos, with cuts to the hand replayer. Their forums suck though, but from what I saw I was extremely impressed with their videos. Definitely considering the $150 for 6 months deal Stox is offering. Not positive, but I definitely liked the videos I watched. Plus their search feature works (ie if you want to find the NLHE ring tables at 200nl you can actually search for it and find it instead of the crap Stox search feature).

Stox definitely has a better community/forum and with the new coaches should be getting even better in the near future, but I just watched a few 200nl videos at CR and a few higher ones (also watched the CTS 25/50 one released on Stox earlier in the week) and was extremely impressed by what I saw. Not positive about it yet but I am definitely considering taking their deal and getting the CR membership.
