Does anybody set limits to how many buy-ins they loss before they stop playing for a night?

or conversely, Do you stop after you've won a certain amount?

Like right now I'm playing 50NL and am up to $130 after playing only 1 hour. Should I stop and count my $80 for the night? Or would you move tables to take the extra $80 your up out of play? I feel like when I don't play it safe (leave the table I'm up on) I lose part of what I would have won and it bothers me.

If you think you made the money outplaying opponents, you should keep playing. Now if you have too much of your BR at the table and there are other deep stacks (ie you won a $50 stack and now have $100 with another person at $100 as well so you could lose $100), you should probably leave the table. But if you can afford it, just remember that the deeper you are if you are the better player, the more +ev the situation is. My stop is when I feel myself tilting either way. Whether I win a lot and start bleeding money because I'm up so much or I've lost a ton and am making bad plays, it's time to stop. But as long as I'm playing well, I'll keep playing whether I lost $200 or won $200.

I'll usually set myself a stop-loss level as a practical measure, particularly live. Usually it's two or three buy-ins.

Have never set a stop-win level though: stopping is based on either the texture of the game going bad, or my play starting to suffer, or my having something better to do.

When I start wondering if its time to leave, win or lose, it probably is.

Generally I like the hit and run approach, tons of tables to choose from, and I sometimes get myself in trouble trying to stick around and stop/ride a streak.

I keep both a stop/loss and a stop/win. But then again, I prefer limit, which is itself a form of stop loss/win. Whenever I hit either end, I either change tables or leave altogether.

I think this is a huge, huge problem of mine and lots of others.

I usually start really slow, after an hour I start winning a lot and I will keep playing until I just about break even with where I started or something horrible might happen and I lose a lot.

If I have someone that is just like "ok that's enough for today" I will get off but I usually don't stop myself :(

So what are your limits?

I am thinking of implementing this into my game but not sure what reasonable limits are.

Right now I'm thinking any table I'm UP 2 1/2 buyins I'll switch tables and if over the course of any night I go down more than 5 buyins I'll stop for the night.

I'm cheap... 1 buy in per night (sometimes per site). I like to play till I double it and then step away from the table and buy in at another if things are going well. Sometimes I'll go up 1 level with 1/2 a buy in with the goal of doubling before I leave.

I will stick around a little while if the cards are hot and the villians easy money but once I pass 4x buy in I get a little too loose and force myself to leave. ( I might come back with 1/2 buy in and take a little more if it feels right...)

The main thing is to mantain good BR management in how ever you choose to play.

He he he... Let's get more complicated. I might do some HORSE micro at one place, go to another for a draw SNG, do lo limit stud hi lo, and visit some omaha, before I ever get close to a Holdem ring game, also mixing SNGs and MTTs, FRs and bigger buyins. Whew.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee (always try to).

Otherwise go rope-a-dope.
