Ive found that im a winning player live when i play 1/2 games but im really struggling online at any level really... I think ive narrowed it down to the fact that im having trouble stayin focused when online.. when i go to the poker room i take a trip i go somewhere sit at a table with chips i have the poker environment.. but at home im just on my laptop with all kinds of comforts of home distractions.. does anyone have any suggestions how they overcome this? or any ideas that can help me stay focused online?

Myself I goto a room that dont have a TV, family around, etc. If you dont have a room like this create one.. I even found myself outside on my back deck.

yea i was thinking about setting up a little "poker office" based off of what i was told for my sleeping problems.. "only use your bed for sleeping".. so i figure if i only use a spot for poker it will help me get in the poker zone better

Getting into a flow of taking a lot of notes (on players, situations, etc) while playing will also help keep you in the zone.

Sometime I think I need to have a PC with nothing but poker on it, no web browsers, the only thing the internet can reach is poker sites

Multi-table if you have so much spare time. Try 16 tabling and then tell me you get distracted. Or just take more notes etc.

Just layer them with a little overlap. 6-8 should be feasible even with a 12" screen.

yea ive tried but the most i can comfortably get is like 4.. its too much of a pain in the ass to use the mouse pad to try to click back and forth i think i have a nice flatscreen monitor from an old pc somewhere and im pretty sure this netbook has a multi screen program in it so i should be able to get plenty of tables runnin

I would advise differently. If you are having trouble concentrating then break up your session with short breaks. only go to eat and pee during those breaks.
every 2 hours take a short rest. take a walk, make a snack or lunch (not junk food, go for protein snacks, chicken/tuna salad etc and water) do some light exercise and take your mind off poker for 15-30 mins or so. then when you return to your poker office your mind will be sharper and able to focus more.

Of course, if you weren't having concentration problems then detourglr is right, cos you wouldn't want to be breaking your flow to go get food.
in your case i think you would benefit from multiple short, intense sessions rather than 1 longer one.

focus

ive mostly been an online player and i spent a lot of money trying to figure out how to stay focused and avoid tilt! my routine is to play multiple tables, 2-4 so that i can see all screens and i focus on all my opponents games. it gets very repetative but every piece of information you gather can be a vital part in making final table. every game you play will gain you experience and only make you better! good luck at the tables and stay focused!

Go outside and play on the patio or picnic table. Normally no distractions. Weather pemitting of course. Try it, it works for me.

Go into a place where it's just u and ur laptop. Don't cloud your mind with anything else only think about poker and the hands until you end your session

Just take a break when you get unfocused. I always lose when I lose interest or get bored.

The music i can see as helping but the tv on?? The tv is one of the main distractions for me its impossible for me to be focused on the action and whats going on in hands especially hands im not involved in..

I set up a desk that is away from the tv which i left off and sometimes put music on but pretty much try to just seclude myself from everything..

i even connected my laptop to a second monitor and keep the laptop out of sight and only the poker tables and lobby on the monitor so its harder to go on websites and stuff

i personally think the TV helps me not make too many light calls in tourneys,i just watch the news or smthng and fold fold fold fold. and when i see any two cards that are playable i pay attention to the game and get back to the tv untill i see another good hand. THIS STRATEGY IS GOOD for the BEGINNING of tourneys.when im close to the bubble and in the money,i mute the TV and focus.

I understand that it helps you keep from playing bad cards and helps with the lull in between hands, but dont you think its important to stay focused on the table and learn about the other players? I mean if ur only paying attention when u have good hands which will be like 15-20% of the time.. ur missing out on 80% of the information

i dont really care about watching how people play at my table at the beginning of the tourneys cause im going to be switched tables anyways, but even if i dont if i get dealt pocket aces or pocket queens,im going to play them the same way regardless of who im playing against.and even if u do pay attention and watch how someone plays and his betting patterns, who is to guarantee me that he didnt just change gears. So no im not too worried about what they r doing.i worry about my cards and MY game. but after the bubble when i know im going somewhere ill give it my 100%. cause at the end of the day, what it takes to reach the bubble is 4-5 good all ins.and a few steals here and there. but yea i do agree that it is important to pay attention to the table.just not so much at the beginning and the late registration period.
