Where do you think poker in general is going? The internet boom has surely passed, and the live events are not as fun on TV as they once were. Is it still possible to earn money to make a living?
Of course it's still possible to make a living whilst playing poker but it's definitely not the wisest choice (unless you're a poker professional superstar than you're most likely going to lose a lot of money in the end run).
gambling was, is and always will be there, poker is just one of those games that give players the set of mind that they have higher
odds in winning money compare to any other casino game (don't get me wrong here, poker is probably the best gambling games available as it has a lot of skill involved and you can definitely have the odds in your favor) BUT let's not forget that the entire purpose is for entertainment.
Now popularity wise, I'm really not sure, It's really hard to tell as the overall poker hype is dropping down rapidly but at the same time more and more people are finding out about the game and joining the hype train even though it already left along time ago. Poker will definitely be a thing for a
VERY long time. Judging by Steven Hawking's recent statement, humanity won't be around after a century anyways so no biggie
