Where do you think poker in general is going? The internet boom has surely passed, and the live events are not as fun on TV as they once were. Is it still possible to earn money to make a living?

If you could not make money in poker, the whole industry would collapse, would not you?) You just need to be able to adjust to all the changes and those who get it still on the horse)

The poker industry is an industry where anyone can win, unfortunately it is necessary skill and some luck, to support you in this industry, I advise you not to base your income just in the game.

Poker is going everywhere anywhere there is people welling to play it.

To make money out of it, is another business.- You need training, patience, BRM and money, no easy way out. :deal:

Poker will always be with us. Too many people love to play poker to the point they will keep playing even if there was a total legal ban on playing. But so many love the game I see people trying to get laws regarding poker relaxed. In order to be successful at poker according to an old timer, you must not care about the money you play with for there is a chance you can loose it all. That being said if you have money to risk I feel you can get by on winnings if you play a good game.:D:D

It's harder when you are playing at the table with full time grinders and potential bots. The mental fatigue and stress just to win at 25 NL and higher is a challenge on its own.

Now the poker game is very common.
Earnings in poker is possible, but to make the game profitable you need to learn and practice in a real game. It is important to set realistic purposes that are achievable at a specific point in time to rationally assess their strength and capabilities. Players who have mastered a successful strategy, at first, earn a little. However, even a small income is gradually increasing free cash, allowing you to switch to a more expensive game, simultaneously improving strategy. The transition to higher limits allows you to gradually increase earnings. Some regulars earn several hundred dollars a month, and for many of them it's decent money, considering the fact that poker is not just a job but a pastime. However, it is not necessary to think that to achieve such success, can be a few days or months.

I have not played poker for a very long time, so I do not know how it changed, but I was told that it was easier to win money earlier

WOW it is not a mainstreme item.

Yes the poker game has been around for years however the notoriety of it has past away. Kids are not picking up cards but footballs soccer balls, baseballs, basketballs as a hobby much younger pastime. Poker is usually picked up after teen years so much further up the road of life. They had the boom but could not keep the fire mostly because of regulation problems (Government Concerns). So those who got in and capitalized on it achieved great success even now they are having a hard time keeping it real believe me there are a lot of back polar rooms somewhere once again.

Of course it's still possible to make a living whilst playing poker but it's definitely not the wisest choice (unless you're a poker professional superstar than you're most likely going to lose a lot of money in the end run).
gambling was, is and always will be there, poker is just one of those games that give players the set of mind that they have higher odds in winning money compare to any other casino game (don't get me wrong here, poker is probably the best gambling games available as it has a lot of skill involved and you can definitely have the odds in your favor) BUT let's not forget that the entire purpose is for entertainment.

Now popularity wise, I'm really not sure, It's really hard to tell as the overall poker hype is dropping down rapidly but at the same time more and more people are finding out about the game and joining the hype train even though it already left along time ago. Poker will definitely be a thing for a VERY long time. Judging by Steven Hawking's recent statement, humanity won't be around after a century anyways so no biggie

I don't think poker will ever be what it was during and after the MoneyMaker Boom hit. I mean when won the wsop main everyone and their mothers, even people who never played a hand of poker in there lives, started playing live and loading money onto online poker sites and the players who had been -playing for years at that point, was raking in the cash faster than they could count. But eventually the buzz wore off and these same people also starting studying poker and their game began to improve greatly. So now the playing field in more even. still many many bad player present at the money tables but not like before.

Poker Industry

I think poker is as big as ESPN wants it to be. When the boom happened, I feel like they controlled the market and let it peak only as far as they wanted to take it. Nothing against the WPT of any other televised poker TV show, but poker would not be where it is today if it wasn't for the WSOP. I still feel like ESPN could have expanded the boom even further if they had coverage of more of the WSOP, but instead they stick solely to just the Main Event. It is shocking to find out how many people think the WSOP is just 1 event, but it is a whole month of great tournaments! They won't even recognize any of the other games exist.

I've been playing for 12 years...

Poker is not nearly as profitable as it used to be, but it's still highly profitable. A lot of things that top pros at high stakes used to do, is exploit people's lack of understanding, especially of the math, which we can't do to the same extent anymore because so much training content has been published over the last decade.

It is still profitable of course, but you have to table select more, and you have to put in serious work to improve.

ESPN knows that multi million dollar payouts drive ratings, and at the end of the day that is all ESPN cares about as that pays the bills. So the WSOP main is the ticket for them in the poker arena. If other wsop events would bring the ratings of the main, they would be on, but football/basketball/baseball/hockey brings 1000 times the viewer on any giving day so its simple for them.

Earn on the game of online poker possible. But the main problem is that all players want to earn, but in fact many players lose their money. Need to understand, in order to start earning money - need discipline, knowledge and experience.

I get that, but tell me, how many football, baseball, or hockey games they show during the summer? They are moving away from sports all together and are becoming a waste pool of opinion shows. If ratings were all they cared about, why did they just lay off 100+ people, but kept the anchors that are putting them in the hole? I'm not arguing that the Main Event would bring in less viewers that say a Razz tournament, all I am saying is they easily could have at least tried to cover some of the other events even if they go on air at 2-5am, but they refuse to because they only want you to see what they want you too.

I hope it's not over, I just got into it a couple years ago :) Whatever is going on ESPN I think there's a grass roots poker boom going on. I live in NY not near a casino but I play in a poker league (they are across the country) and we play because we love to play. It feels like the leagues are growing and the 2 events per year were all the leagues compete are attracting more and more players and bigger prizes . Google bar poker open if you are interested.

If you set yourself the goal of earning a living by poker (a lot and persistently doing something, this goal would come true), then everything is real !!
