This maybe the most painfully obvious thing and I may a bit premature and optimistic posting this but..

For the past month I've semi been on a detox diet, that being organic food only, no addtives, seasoning, nothing.

When I lasted a week I made quite a decent ROI/ITM from 1 tabling, 44% iirc
Since I regressed I have noticed I have tilted, spewed, done retarded shit, been 'robotic' whilst still making 40%ITM I was breakeven for 2 weeks, now mind you this is part time as I study so lets not these stats reflect on a 9-5 lifestyle of poker.

Now since I've been strong, and decided to detox again, now on my 4th day, not so much the first day but 2nd.3rd and now currently 4th, maybe its all in my head but who knows but I've noticed I've been the complete opposite, and now making profit again, while making some sound decisions, not overplaying hands, tough laydowns, folding tough spots that I think take me 7 days prior I woulda made regardless?

So how important is a diet and can it really affect your mental game a great deal, I mean sure you may get enough sleep but without the nutritional value how much of these chemicals in our food that we ingest, have an effect on us, I maybe speaking crazy when I go down the road of chemicals but I saw a similar topic on 2plus2 a few months back which I skimmed read.

I believe it's true. I think I'm more focused when I have a salad for lunch and maybe an apple/fruit later during the game. If I have a heavy carb dinner like pasta etc.... I'm more prone to sleep, which isn't good for paying attention, just good for paying out.

TeUnit hit it right now on the nuts, simply put.

The more you exercise and eat properly, the better you can potentially be at the game. Having a healthy body can directly play into how well you play the game, especially in longer sessions. Your less susceptible to tilting, can think clearer, and just in general, have a better mentality to what is happening on the tables.

Still looking for organic edible playing cards. Good mental, physical and emotional health are important. Hearing the "oh God, just one more time" line, can make a case for spiritual as well.

I have noticed that when I eat well, I play better too. Usually a big salad before a tourny, and a banana or 2 during breaks and whatnot, and I feel really sharp and ready to play .

hello guys ;)

If you incorporate time for physical activity (running, musculation, swimming pool, four to five days a week, you will see significant improvements in your physique, stamina, alertness and ability to focus, stress levels, and sleep patterns.

it’s difficult to maintain a proper diet , But, as your body becomes accustomed to proper nutrition, it will penalize you when you feed it garbage. That makes eating right much easier after a short while. If you want to improve your health and your game, you have to improve the quality of the fuel you give your body and mind.

Not sure I agree with the connection between diet and poker but hey if its working than keep rolling with both of them!

I know it will upset some but I have to be honest in saying that I never bought into any of this either. I pretty much believe that it's just wishful thinking on the behalf of some that they'll get better if they change their diet. I recently saw a guy suggest a "poker workout regiment" to someone that included all sorts of weight lifting and cardio work. I really don't see why someone would spend their time on fitness if they wanted to get better at poker. Why not just spend your time on poker?

You guys need to realize that a lot of the kids and 30 somethings who are getting great in today's market aren't really eating anything and they're spending hours, upon hours, upon hours playing and studying and doing not much of anything else. Drugs usually play a huge role. I can assure you, I've played some of my best poker already when I hadn't slept in 48+ hours nor even thought of a bite to eat in at least as much time.

All of that being the case, it's hard for me to imagine that I'll be at a disadvantage in the future when playing poker for mid+ stakes against the guy who eats his Wheaties and spends at least 40 hours a week with the family.

Again, I do realize that this post will be controversial and some will be highly offended but I thought it was relevant to give my two pennies. More time spent thinking about poker and less time worrying about your caloric intake would probably help your game. That's all I'm saying.

How can your diet, and lack exercise affect your poker game? It's a pretty simple answer. As a professional, you want to play under optimal playing conditions, no distractions, good table selection, and a BRAIN that's focused along with constantly analyzing the table.

It's a proven FACT that working out and proper diet created endorphin which creates a positive mood and reduces STRESS. Why would you not want your body and brain to be the sharpest, which is paramount to ones success in poker? Every small edge separates the good players from true pros. In the end it is a business right? If your mental game is the most crucial part of the game then why not help improve your mental game? Without a good "mental game" no one can excel in poker . Do what it takes to improve ALL aspects of your game even it seems petty. It all adds up to more $$
