Hi i'm Toby

Iv always loved playing poker mainly in live games with friends and have done quite well and now I want to take it more seriously.

Iv played on line before but never with a bankroll and are looking to do that now.

My plan is to start off with 75 pound and play 5 dollar games which works out at about 30 games to begin with and hopefully go upfrom there in the future.

I was thinking of doing 9-6 turbo tourneys as iv had better results from them in the past, as I can get bored some times in multiplayer ones.

Does any one think stars being a big site is a good place to start or a small pkr site with less players as they might be weaker.

Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers Toby.

Hi toby, welcome to the forum. There are many articles on here about bankroll management, it is one of the most important part of playing poker. Check them out, and follow their advice. If you play within the limits of your bankroll you cant go broke

Also good luck

Before you start, you should understand that you have asked the most important question that any poker player should ask. I wish I would have asked this question years ago. If that was the case, I would be a winning poker player.

Downloading the Fergulator will help, but you should grind at smaller limits. Try different games at micro prices to see what you are comfortable playing. I realized that my best game is 7 card Hi/Lo, and when I was winning, I was grinding at these tables.

I know that there is a lot of experience at this site, and I normally listen instead of joining the conversation. The best advise that I can give you is that proper bankroll management will be the difference in becoming a profitable poker player.

^ What everyone else said about bankroll management. There are a couple of good articles in our strategy section on it.

The players at micros are different degrees of bad depending on the site but they're still bad. The slight improvement in level of play on Stars is probably offset by the better game selection than at smaller sites, so basically, go with whatever site you want - maybe play a few free games at a few sites and see which interface you feel most comfortable with?

Sng´s are a good way to begin with, most of the good well known players started this way. pokerstars still has enough fish to feed us all and enough traffic, on the smaller sites the games dont fill up and the deposits/cashouts may be a pain. And if you are ready to deposit again, you of course need no super strict bankroll management.

Profit margins are usually low for SNG grinders so it's worth shopping around for the lowest rake.

The rake for SNG's is pretty low at Stars but a juicy rakeback deal somewhere else might work out cheaper idk.

Start at the lowest levels and play various types of games enough to knoe what you want to focus on. You can go back to add others later, but most people are or would be best served to concentrate on one they enjoy until they reach a decent win rate.

As I've said repeatedly, BRM isn't just about having at least X buyins. The #1 key to growing your roll is simply to play opponents who are worse than you. And the straightforward way to find out where you're currently better than average is to start at the lowest buyin levels and move up if/when you find you're a solid winner and have enough buyins.

Cardschat buyin

This may not belong here, sorry to take your forum post. Just wanted to say about to start in five minutes my first CC buyin tournament poker. See if I can build a bankroll here.
Can't believe I am finally getting my first CC game in, been wanting to join in on these for quite some time. Usually miss the kickoff time but now I know where I will be on Friday's.
See you all on tables.
